Culber. Wilson Cruz really did an amazing job carrying that character through the idiotic decision to kill him, through the nonsensical writing of season 2, through the years when his ONLY trait was an interest in Kaseelian Opera. His sudden return to Stamets in "Such Sweet Sorrow Part 2" may be Disco's most unearned Big Emotional Moment, and THAT is saying something.

But the jump to the future gave Culber a great opportunity for a reset, and he's been written fantastically since then. They have even managed to reconcile the mishmash of the earlier years.

I especially appreciated Kovich explicitly calling out the season 2 writing for being terrible, when he described Culber's reaction to returning from the dead as "stunningly generic."

Speaking of Lower Decks, I'm saving Shaxs, because he'd sacrifice his life to save any of us. Especially if it meant he could beat up a room full of people and set off a huge explosion in the process. You could accuse him of being a caricature of Worf, except with more anger and less honour (a lot more anger), but he's also a fantastic character in his own right.

God, I still want to save almost all of these! There are very few Trek characters I dislike, it seems.

I'll go with Raffi Musiker. I connect to this character immensely! Love her dynamic with Picard. I found it very powerful to see a character struggling with substance abuse issues and being tossed from Starfleet and all these things the characters from Berman Trek were above.

"I'm more like the wreckage of a good person. In an emergency, you can slap together a temporary good person out of the pieces."

Brilliant line.

I'm saving Tom Paris. I like how he's always willing to do the right thing, even if it breaks the rules. A prime example is in 'Thirty Days', where he tries to save the people living in that water planet, even though it means disobeying orders.

I'm saving Jake Sisko, he was a realistic kid and the writers did a good job letting him be a kid and then a young adult and I liked that they didn't do the expected thing and had him join starfleet, it sometimes feels like in Star Trek the only good career option is starfleet so it was nice to see that there are other things to do.
