The Most Disliked Episode of TNG, Finals: 2021 Edition...

Next Generation was just epically bad at writing kids. I don't know if it's cause they were constrained by social norms at the time, "We need more Beaver Cleavers and less Bart Simpsons" syndrome. Their emotions had nothing in common with the emotions of real human children.

Children of the 1500s had just as much in common with those from the stone age too. Or from the 1900s for a rather less melodramatic parallel. Either way, TNG wasn't going to show kids being no different several centuries later to ours.

They may be different, sure, but quite unlikely to be like Beaver Cleaver.

Love the lively, informative debate here, and wanted to throw my hat into the ring even though the voting is officially over...

Though not the worst episode of season 1 - to me, that (dis)honor goes to Code of Honor - but the most frustrating episode was Symbiosis, as it demonstrates the all-too-flexible nature of the Prime Directive.

It fluctuates from "We're going to help them, or won't, because of the PD..." to "Maybe can, or can't, because of the PD..." and if I think about it too much my head might explode, so I just close my eyes to it as often as possible and enjoy the series for the million and one reasons there are to love it.

While I'm in a picky mood, why does the pre-Starfleet Academy Wesley Crusher always wear that damned sweater ?! It's like the episode of Seinfeld where Jerry yells "Why do you always wear the same dress ?!"

It was season one's attempt at a cadet uniform. Given that his off-duty wardrobe seems to consist of excitingly chunky knitwear it's probably just as well.

Hey, Vale - thanks for that !
I think "Excitingly Chunky Knitwear" will be the name of my new band...
