The Most Disliked Episode of DS9 - Season 4...

This is a twist on a game that is played here, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your most favorite or the one you deem the 'best.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win. Pretty simple. Enjoy!

This season is the closest thing to a perfect season the franchise ever got. As far as I'm concerned, only half of 1 episode did not work. So picking episodes to save is incredibly easy for me. The only difficulty is choosing the order.

So I will begin with the episode that makes me cry every... single... time.

"THE VISITOR"... not just a great DS9 episode, but an incredible one in television. Anyone who has lost someone they loved can identify with this story.

It's my platonic ideal of a holodeck episode -- it's so fun, every gimmick works, it's the exact right blend of stakes and silliness. Even the technobabble B story delivers, the dynamic of Quark, Rom, Eddington, and Odo working together to solve it is perfect.

I was going to save "OUR MAN BASHIR" next as a Bond fan.

"TO THE DEATH" is my next save, then. I have always loved this look into the Jem'Hadar. Behr and Wolfe really show an intetesting culture, and how you DO NOT screw with them.

"HIPPOCRATIC OATH" We get to see how at times there is friction among the crew along with some deep idealistic divides. I really liked the framing of Bashir's conflict with O'Brien and how no one is shown to be clearly in the right or the wrong. It very much depends on your own set of ethics as to how you read this episode. I also like Worf's conflict with Odo. Although for the most part I didn't care for Worf as an addition to the DS9 crew initially, it was episodes like this that helped me come around to the decision.

I was just going on about "Rejoined" in another thread. It's pretty damn perfect. The best Trill episode, probably the best Jadzia episode, and also I think it's my favorite ROTW throughout all Trek.

It's too bad Berman or whoever was too obliviously homophobic to allow gay issues to be explored outside one-off episodes. It would be such a franchise legacy enhancer if they'd managed a proper gay character in this era of TV.

But, if one episode was all we could get, I don't see how it could have been done any better than "Rejoined."

"THE SWORD OF KAHLESS" is the second-best Klingon episode of the entire series after "Once More Unto The Breach" but that one is just a masterpiece.

GARAK: My specialty was Edosian orchids. Beautiful, but highly toxic.
ODO: As I recall, Proconsul Merrok was poisoned.
GARAK: Funny, I don't remember that. But then again, so many Romulan dignitaries died unexpectedly that year...
