The Most Disliked Episode of DS9, 2023 Edition - Season 3...

"Distant Voices" gets a save, for its freaky setting and premise, and rather ingenious "running out of time" mechanic. And any episode with Bashir and Garak together a lot will probably be pretty good.

"THE SEARCH, PART II"
"EQUILIBRIUM"
"SECOND SKIN"
"MERIDIAN"
"LIFE SUPPORT"
"HEART OF STONE"
"PROPHET MOTIVE"
"THE ADVERSARY"

Ah, my biyearly rescue of Fascination comes again. I love the fun party vibes of this one. Sorry folks, this one won't be making it to the garbage heap - not while I'm around!

"FASCINATION" was going to be my next save because I love how fun it is, and it gave us the best shots of the Promenade of the show. (Courtesy of Avery Brooks' excellent eye for shots.)

Saving "LIFE SUPPORT".

While the Jake/Nog story is fun, it does hurt the episode overall because it's such a jarring shift in tones.

But it was still really good because Bareil was truly one of the most selfless people in DS9. Life can be damned cruel, and his fate illustrates that.

And good for Bashir on calling out Winn to her face how cowardly she is... yet another reason why he's my favorite doctor in the franchise.

I love Equilibrium, so this is an easy save.

A mystery going on with Dax's past hosts is compelling enough, especially with the chilling music that appears throughout.

Also worthy of note is the brilliant teaser with the senior staff appearing in Sisko's quarters. for food. Odo's face when he helps to stir something is priceless! :D

EDIT - Ninja'd!

I'll let Merdian be the big loser because it's just such a terribly done ROTW, and I can't quite get my head around Jadzia willingly letting the Dax symbiont come to potential harm when she merges with the rest of the planet.

Prophet Motive had some interesting scenes with the newly benevolent Zek and fun with the prophets.

Saving "PROPHET MOTIVE", because it was a more fun episode.

Seven of Five, looks like we were thinking the same way.

"MERIDIAN" wins... again. For the fourth time in a row.

Fun fact: the winner and runner up for this season has been the exact same for the last 4 games. And "MERIDIAN" has been the ONLY episode in the entire franchise to win its season every single time. (Until this year, "Transfigurations" was the only other episode to achieve this feat.)

I will start season 4 soon. Hope to see everyone there.

Thank you all for playing.

Funny how this always comes out on the bottom, even though people tend to think the B-plot is quite funny.

But Kira's epic line: "The next time I catch you pointing a holo-imager at me, you will wind up eating it!"

You can't tell me that wasn't awesome.

It was awesome. I love the B story of "MERIDIAN". I just don't think it saves the entire episode.
It wouldn't save it for me either, but it means the episode has a lot more to recommend it than many of Trek's worst episodes. I compared it to Precious Cargo, admitting that Terry Farrell actually puts in a valiant effort, and I would rather watch Meridian over Precious Cargo every day of the week.

Combs was a great actor and I'm glad he got meatier roles later. But in Meridian he didn't have much of a role.
