The most blatan honesty I've ever seen.

The most blatant* honesty I've ever seen.
I work for a very large national company. They asked a week ago for volunteers to help this Holiday Season. 50 people showed up for the meeting today.

They gave everyone $300.00 cash and said "do some good with it." they're not tracking it, hell they even said share it with a family member, just help someone this year.

I'm still taken aback by the absolute honesty of it. I'll end up donating it to charity, I've just never seen anything like this.

Sounds real nice. I heard about a smaller company somewhere that did almost the same type of thing. They gave everyone in the company $100, with the stipulation that it be spent in the neighborhood, to help stimulate the local economy. Either way, pretty damn nice.
WHere I work they're trying to cut our salaries by 12%!

Good for them! Nice to see a little trust in this world. I just hope it doesn't blow up in their faces. They probably know too that there are people who are suffering financially this Christmas and $300 to spend on their family is "doing some good".

Sounds like a holiday bonus (a small one, really) wrapped up in a nice presentation.

It's about presenting a positive image through word of mouth.

There was a company in the UK i believe who hired 20 or so pick-pockets and slight of hand masters to go around public places slipping money into peoples pockets and bags as part of a guerrilla campaign to "brighten peoples days."

Good PR, tax relief, and a cheap way to buy some loyalty, all rolled into one. Sounds like good sense to me.

I'm really too cynical for this season sometimes... :(

Reminds me of a story I read a while ago where police officers were going around stopping drivers to tell them that they're really good drivers.

Ah, that was it:

Out of a misguided sense of goodwill, Rancho Cordova police officers will be pulling over citizens who aren't doing anything wrong and reward their good driving with $5 Starbucks. While nice in theory, it would be a pain in the butt if you were running late for work. I wonder if, just like when you get pulled over for speeding, they're going to make you wait in your car for 10 minutes first. I also wonder why they couldn't just take people's license numbers down and mail them the gift cards. I also also wonder if it's legal for a police officer to detain someone who isn't breaking the law. N doubt such irritating questions will disappear the moment the free Mocha Frappacino hits your brain nerves.

It sounds like they're fine with you using the $300 on your family if you're really in "need," so there's no reason to do any monitoring. It's a good holiday idea.

I wonder what would happen if that led to a real arrest. Would the charge be thrown out (as the officer had no just cause to pull the driver over)?

"I pulled the driver over, your honour, to reward his good driving. It was while I was giving him his Starbucks voucher that I noticed the corpse in the back seat."
