"The Menagerie" Line-by-Line

KEEPER [on screen]: What you now seem to hear, Captain Kirk, are my thought transmissions. The Commodore was never aboard your vessel. His presence there and in the shuttlecraft was an illusion. Mister Spock had related to us your strength of will. It was thought the fiction of a court-martial would divert you from too soon regaining control of your vessel. Captain Pike is welcome to spend the rest of his life with us, unfettered by his physical body. The decision is yours and his.

Uhura: Message from Starbase 11, Sir. Received images from Talos IV. In view of historic importance of Captain Pike and Space Exploration, General Order 7, prohibiting contact with Talos IV is suspended this occasion. No action contemplated against Spock. Proceed as you think best. Signed; Mendez, J.I. Commodore, Starbase 11.

(Pike beeps "yes")

Kirk: Mr. Spock, would you like to take Captain Pike to the transporter room, see him off?

Kirk: Mr Spock, when you've finished, please come back and see me I want to talk to you, this regrettable tendency you've been showing lately towards flagrant emotionalism...

Spock: I see no reason to insult me, sir. I believe I've been completely logical about the whole affair.

(Spock continues to wheel Pike out of the courtroom when...)

KEEPER: Captain Kirk. (On screen we see a young and vibrant Vina and Captain Pike, walking up to the entrance of the underground cave.) Captain Pike has an illusion and you have reality. May you find your way as pleasant.

(The screen goes off and Kirk stand there smiling, relieved as ever that things have turned out all right)

Woot! Congratulations, everyone! Well done!

And for once, I am here at the moment of completion to get us headed off toward our next episode! Give me a few minutes to compile the info, and I'll be right back!

The political pundits are already lining up to analyze the results of the next selection!

As before, I compiled a list of everyone who participated in this thread and then numbered the list.

Here's what I came up with:

1. CoveTom
2. LeadHead
3. leandar
4. Kolrad
5. JanewayRulz!
6. Adm_Hawthorne
7. scotpens
8. ClayinCA
9. Ziz
10. brian
11. Captain Robert April
12. Orac

Excellent participation once again!

Those names should be in the order in which each person first posted to the thread. No "weight" is given for who posted more or less often.

(If I inadvertently left anyone off the list of participants, please let me know and I'll try to make it up on the next go-around.)

I then used a random number generator -- www.random.org, to be specific -- and had it pick a number between 1 and 12. This is completely and totally random. There is no favoritism of any kind shown.

And the winner is...

*drumroll*

Adm_Hawthorne! (Hmm, maybe there is some favoritism, since it's picked you twice! :) )

Congratulations, Adm_Hawthorne!

So, Adm_Hawthorne, the next move is yours. Would you like to select the next episode we are going to do line-by-line? You are free to select the next episode or pass and I will re-run the randomization. You can pick any episode from any of the Trek series that you like. For reference, the ones we've done so far, ordered by series, are:

Where No Man Has Gone Before (TOS)
The Man Trap (TOS)
The Menagerie (TOS)
Measure of a Man (TNG)
Yesterday's Enterprise (TNG)
Peak Performance (TNG)
The Visitor (DS9)
Trials and Tribble-ations (DS9)
Bride of Chaotica (VOY)
Dark Frontier (VOY)
Scorpion (VOY)
Counterpoint (VOY)

Once a new episode has been chosen, I will fire up the next line-by-line thread in the appropriate forum and post the link here.
