Might I suggest we just do it the way we did TMP? When you get to a cut, do it whichever way? If we include a few bits from "The Cage," (sorry) maybe it'd make it a bit richer line-by-line?

I assume we are using the redited "Menagerie" version, since someone (?) CoveTom? linked the transcript to that one in the voyager forum. "The Cage" transcript is cooler, but the whole intent of the show is quite diffferent the "The Menagerie".

(On Talos, Pike is attempting to find a way out of his cage and the Talosians are watching him on a screen)

Talosian: Thousands of us are already probing the creature's thoughts, Magistrate. We find excellent memory capacity.

OFFICIAL RULING: Okay, I don't know how official I am, but someone asked, so here it is... To me, "The Menagerie" and "The Cage" are two very different episodes, even though they are largely cut from the same source material. Therefore, it would be my verdict that we are doing the cut of the Cage footage as seen in "The Menagerie." If someone later wants to do "The Cage" as a stand-alone episode line-by-line, that would be perfectly fine with me.


KEEPER: I read most strongly a recent death struggle in which it fought to protect its life. We will begin with this, giving the specimen something more interesting to protect.

(Pike suddenly seems to appear on Rigel VII near a huge castle and a woman runs up to him)

Vina: Come on! We must hide ourselves! Come! Come, hurry! It's deserted. There'll be weapons and perhaps food.

PIKE: This is Rigel VII.

 

[Leandar]

Vina: Please, we must hide ourselves!

 

[CoveTom]

PIKE: I was in a cage, a cell, in some kind of a zoo. I must still be there.

 

[Leandar]

Vina: Come on!

 

[Captain Robert April]

ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOAR!!!!

 

[Leandar]

Pike: They've reached into my mind and taken the memory of somewhere I've been.

Vina: The Kaylar!

 

[Orac]

Pike: It's starting just as it happened two weeks ago, except for you.

 

[Leandar]

(Pike runs off as we recede from the viewscreen and back into the courtroom)

Spock: A brilliant deduction by Captain Pike, gentlemen. Yes, he was still inside his cell, but knowing that couldn't help him.

 

[Orac]

Kirk: The Talosians controlled his brain.

 

[Leandar]

Spock: And could make him live any place, any time, any situation they wished. He would see, taste, suffer with the same reality as you gentlemen sitting there.

 

[Orac]

Pike: Longer hair, different dress, but it is you, the one the survivors called Vina...

 

[Adm_Hawthorne]
