"The Menagerie" Line-by-Line

Greetings!

We've recently concluded our "Counterpoint" Line-by-Line thread over in the Voyager forum!

After each completed thread, I'm randomly picking someone who participated to choose the next episode we do. The lucky winner this time around was leandar! And leandar has chosen "The Menagerie" as our next line-by-line adventure!

For any unfamiliar with our "game," you are asked to post only a single line (defined as one character speaking without interruption by another character) per message. You can post as often as you like, but someone else must post a line in between your posts.

We will be going straight through both parts of "The Menagerie" as we have done with other two part episodes.

As before, at the conclusion of this thread, I will pick someone at random from among all the participants to choose the next episode we do.

[Outside Starbase 11]

PIPER: Welcome to Starbase Eleven, Captain. The Commodore's waiting to see you. He's curious why you suddenly changed course and came here.

 

[LeadHead]

Kirk: We received a subspace message asking us to divert here immediately.

 

[CoveTom]

PIPER: This base sent no message, Captain.

 

[Leandar]

(inside Mendez's office)

Mendez: Oh Jim, I just don't understand this.

 

[LeadHead]

Kirk: Mister Spock received a Starbase Transmission, a message from the former Commander of the Enterprise, Fleet Captain Pike, urgently requesting that we divert here.

 

[Kolrad]

Mendez: Impossible.

 

[LeadHead]

Kirk: If my First Officer states he received a transmission from-

 

[Kolrad]

Mendez: Jim, I'm not doubting anyone's word. I'm simply telling you it's impossible.

 

[JanewayRulz!]

KIRK: Why?

 

[Adm_Hawthorne]

Mendez: You don't know? You actually don't know what's happened to Captain Pike? There's been subspace chatter about it for months. I'm sorry to have to be the one to show you. He's upstairs in the medical section.

 

[Leandar]

(Starbase Medical Ward)

Mendez (cont.): You ever met Chris Pike?

Kirk: We met when he was promoted to Fleet Captain.

 

[LeadHead]

Mendez; About your age. Big, handsome man, vital, active.

 

[Leandar]

Kirk: I took over the Enterprise from him, Spock served with him for several years.

 

[Adm_Hawthorne]

Spock: Eleven years, four months, five days.

 

[Leandar]

McCoy: What's his problem, Commodore?

 

[LeadHead]

Mendez: Inspection Tour of a Cadet Vessel. Old Class J Starship. One of the Baffle plates ruptured.

 

[Leandar]

McCoy: The delta rays?

 

[Adm_Hawthorne]

MENDEZ: He went in bringing out all those kids that were still alive. Just wanted you gentlemen to be prepared.

[Pike's room]

MENDEZ: Captain Pike. (a scarred head and shoulders sticking out of wheelchair device) Captain, you remember these gentlemen. They wanted to visit you. Two flashes mean no. I thought you might make an exception for them. (flash, flash) I'm sorry, gentlemen.

 

[Leandar]

Kirk: Chris... if there's anything I can do for you....
