Starbase Computer voice: You're needed aboard the Enterprise, Doctor. Medical emergency.

 

[JanewayRulz!]

MCCOY: Well, what is it? Sickness? Injury? How bad is it?

 

[Leandar]

Starbase Computer voice: That's all we have on it, Doctor. Just needed aboard.

 

[LeadHead]

McCoy: Probably somebody discovered a hangnail. I'll beam up and let you know Jim.

 

[Leandar]

(in Mendez's office, Kirk is about to read a booklet titled "Talos IV: For eyes of Starfleet Command only)

Kirk: For eyes of Starfleet Command only.

 

[CoveTom]

MENDEZ: Oh, I'm certifying I ordered you to read it. Know anything at all about this planet?

 

[Leandar]

Kirk: What every ship captain knows. General Order Seven: "No vessel under any condition, emergency or otherwise, is to visit Talos IV."

 

[CoveTom]

MENDEZ: And to do so is the only death penalty left on our books. Only Fleet Command knows why. Not even this file explains that. (a beat) But it does name the only Earth ship that ever visited the planet.

 

[Leandar]

Kirk: The Enterprise. Commanded by Captain Christopher Pike.

 

[CoveTom]

MENDEZ: With a half-Vulcan science officer named Spock.

 

[Leandar]

Piper: Commodore! Captain Pike, he's gone!

 

[CoveTom]

MENDEZ (into comm): Mendez here, what is it?

(BTW, am I the only one who thinks it odd that while reviewing and discussing a "For Eyes of Starfleet Command Only" report, Mendez would allow Piper to remain in the room?)

 

[JanewayRulz!]

VOICE [OC]: Starship Enterprise, Commodore. It's warping out of orbit. Refuses to acknowledge our signal.

 

[Leandar]

^^I've never thought about it, but now that you mention it, you could be right. Or maybe Piper had some high level clearance to be around when Mendez was talking about this and that.... *shrugs*

(Act Two)

(Enterprise leaves Starbase 11 behind. On the bridge...)

Hansen: Out of orbit, Mr. Spock. It seems strange with no navigator on duty...

 

[LeadHead]

Spock: The Enterprise knows where she's going Mister Hansen.

 

[Leandar]

Uhura: Someone's trying to hail us, sir.

 

[LeadHead]

Spock: Maintain radio silence Lieutenant.

Spock activates Intercom

This is the First Officer Spock. Per Starfleet orders this date, I have been placed in temporary command of the Enterprise. While our destination is secret, our mission is relatively simple. Starfleet Command has assigned Captain Kirk medical rest leave until our return. His instructions are that you obey my orders as you would his. First Officer out.

 

[Leandar]

McCoy: What's going on around here? Who said Jim needed a medical rest leave? And this call about me being needed aboard the ship. I've checked everywhere and...

 

[LeadHead]

Spock: ...And no one from ths ship made such a call.

 

[Leandar]

McCoy: That's right.
