The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya S2

Seems to me the new episodes are lacking something. They just don't have the same spark as the first season; the direction doesn't have the same flair and timing. Still, I haven't seen anyone else comment on this, so I guess it must just be me.

Well, I've seen it now. This episode was fun and amusing. Noteworthy, scenes are:

Haruhi making Kyon take her to the pool riding double on the bike
Haruhi in a bathing suit
Mikuru in a yukata

I have a feeling there is going to be a use for that wacked out mask Yuki bought. Yuki has never been one to do things spontaneously, something's up.

Yeah, it means: "Look at me, I'm wearing a shirt with a different language! Aren't I cool and trendy?"

I'll have to post of pic of the obnoxious Engrish shirt Keichi's actor wears in the live action Higurashi movie.

Eiit: Here it is

As for Haruhi II episode 2, currently aquiring. I started it this afternoon but someone used my machine and paused the download but never resumed it. :klingon:

Whole lotta fuck on that shirt. :)
I almost wonder if Japanese people get shitty English tattoos the same way that people here get Kanji/Hanzi tattoos. "Rove", "Piece", "Happyness".

As for the episodes, I guess it's kind of hard to tell... we got one "mythology" episode which was mostly plot driven and one unrelated almost fan-servicey episode, which was a change of pace from the mostly frenetic non-mythology episodes of S1.
But there's a whole arc coming up soon, so maybe we'll be able to gauge the quality.

On an unrelated note, K-On's done. Maybe they spent all their "cute" and "wacky" animators on that.

Yeah I can't say for sure but I got the feeling that the episode we watched was taken from one of the short story novels, sort of like Fumoffu. We're probably going to get stuff from the Vanishment of Haruhi Suzumiya sometime soon

Well episode 3 is out now.

Looks like we're getting the Groundhogs Day effect and holy shit poor Nagato has had to live through the same span of time for over 500 years strait! No wonder she's actually showing signs of depression as she's the only one who remembers it while the rest only get a mild case of Deja vu after reliving the same week over 1,000 times. I'm pretty sure I know exactly what Kyon has to do to solve this.
he has to ask Haruhi out and spend the last day with her in order to end the cycle.

I almost thought I was watching the same episode again.

I swear to god, I think this is the most inventive television show ever made - period. It's the perfect use of television as a medium and it's too bad American TV producers will never watch it so that they can learn from it.

Yep, rhetoric high.

Yeah I wish American TV would be as creative lol

The best part about the episode was that it was like a love child between my favorite show (Higurashi) and my second favorite show (Haruhi) leading to pure awesomeness

What makes it even more enjoyable is I have chosen to use this episode to introduce my 4 year old sister to anime, and she loved the episode. Granted, she thinks they are speaking spanish and she cant read the subtitles but who cares about that stuff right?

Everyone can relate to pretty pictures.
Although, it probably helps that it's a relatively slow show... no seizure warnings needed!

Good job, start her off young. :techman:

Unfortunately, if I had a sister her age I couldn't really do that as my supply of child-safe anime is very limited. The Miyazaki movies and maybe about 7 or 8 other series.

Only if you're prepared to answer lots and lots of awkward questions and pay for her psychological treatment later in life.
:guffaw:

My thoughts are different. I think:

Kyon has to do his homework to break the cycle.

Mundane, I know, but I can't shake the feeling that's it.

thats possible I suppose (and it would be unexpected and funny) but at the same time it isn't really Haruhi related

Well, there are also some of that feel:

That Haruhi isn't actually the one with the ability. Kyon has the powers and he created Haruhi in his subconscious desire for his life to become more interesting.

Yeah I heard about that theory. It would be one hell of a plot twist if true

That idea occured to me early on in the series, but I don't think it'll pan out that way because it will mean that the rest of the gang will have to have directly lied to Kyon at a couple of points rather than just prevaricated, which would just be cheap and feel wrong for their characters.

True, but I just can't see it happening. I quite like the idea really, but having read the books it just doesn't really seem to work to me. Still, at this rate we'll never know as the author seems to be suffering from major writer's block or something. I think the tenth book was supposed to be out about a year ago.

I kind of don't want a twist like that though... well, depending on how it's set up I suppose. My idea of twists has been permanently damaged by the ending of BSG - which was a twist for the sake of having a twist more than anything really interesting.

Out of character to lie to Kyon? They keep him in the dark about soooooo many things.

Oh, and Koizumi fully believes himself to be a creation of Haruhi, so it would go to follow that the other two could be as well.
