The Maple Leaf Lounge

The article I read mentioned an easing of air restrictions, but provided exactly zero details as to what that might entail.

Hmmm. Well I guess I can hope.

Yes, I am fully aware of how the pandemic is still a thing...but if I have to spend half my vacation trying to line up a covid test (to say nothing about filling out all that paperwork and fiddling with the 'Arrive' app), I might as well wait until that stuff isn't required anymore.

CRB is not going to be extended further.

This is not good. I fear that going anywhere near back to status quo ante-Pandemic (un)employment insurance rules is going to make things worse. The "targeted" successor plan is not going to help everyone who still needs it, nor - I fear - is it intended to do so.
A better solution would be to stop with the subjugation and oppression of the Canadian population, rescind all these archaic mask/vaccine passport rules and open the country back up fully so people can get back to work instead of living off the government because they're scared of getting the sniffles

It *is* October... there is the possibility that Garak is just posting in-character as his Halloween persona, as he tends to do this time of year.

Some-one please have mercy on Ontario.

Having just endured the federal election, we're now getting ads for the provincial election even though it's not until June and the bullshit is flying thick n fast.

We're just going to have to cope, and maybe learn some stuff about where Ontario is now.

But at least starting Monday you'll be able to drown your sorrows by going into a crowded 100% capacity restaurant, with everyone taking off their masks to eat. Doesn't that sound fun?

Meh - only time we ever go to restaurants is when the in-laws are in town so that's neither here nor there.

Getting to them when you don't drive and your spouse uses a wheelchair can be a pain (and her power chair was on loan all summer).

I rarely go to restaurants either, just because I can't afford to. But even if I could, I wouldn't be now.

The timing for that couldn't be worse for our region, where currently we've had a number of outbreaks. Most of them were ironically enough via restauraunts which the province wants to fully open up.

you mean the restaurants that are supposed to be checking the vaccination status of people and enforcing no jab/no dine-in.

We've had a couple here that publicly stated they weren't going to check people's status and drew the ire of the local health unit. Hope the extra sales covered the cost of the fine.

Not aware of any cases linked to the venues though.

Yeah, there were a number of exposures, all at restauraunts, and high-profile ones at that. And our region is generally pretty good at following the regulations.

But yes, we had a similar situation with a local establishment that publicly stated that they wouldn't check, almost to the point of being proud about it, which was a bad idea if you ask me. It was a trendy/hipster place selling expensive charcuterie plates $30 and up, owned by two people. Apparently they were reported soon after to the health unit, and surprise, not a week later goes by and the co-owner that was so adamant put up her stake on Kijiji! It was said that the other owner she shared ownership with really didn't want to go along with not checking.

Those that protest in front of the hospital make me sick.

I'm just glad that 95% of what I watch is time shifted so I can skip through the ads.
As for me, I'm in my party's riding association - at least for now - and I'm dealing with various kinds of peril right now, I have a meeting that I feel the need to attend tomorrow afternoon. Thankfully, it's in an outdoor parking lot about ten minutes from home this time. I intend to stay masked.

^ Not sure whether the peril you're concerned about is COVID-related or politics-related, but either way, I hope you stay safe.
