The Maple Leaf Lounge

I live in the far southern climes of the country, so normally the aurora borealis is something I can only see in images online. However, it looks like there was a recent coronal mass ejection that is expected to cause a strong geomagnetic storm beginning this afternoon. They are forecasting that the resulting auroras may be visible as far south as my region.

Unfortunately, based on the cloud forecast, it looks like clouds will prevent southwestern Ontario from seeing anything anyway. But anyone across Canada who has clear skies tonight may want to take a look outside to see if you get a light show! :)

Apart from the issue of light pollution and the position of where we live, almost any time mother nature puts on a display in the sky it's overcast.

Though I think even for my in-laws way out in the country won't have much luck given the weather forecast.

Yep, we were overcast that day as well. Though I've seen a friend from Colorado post a picture and I was surprised they got it as far south.

Honestly, I don't think so. While it was fun seeing it happen in the movie, I don't think they continued that. The animated series is more of an extension to the live-action, and could possibly be taking place before the movie.

Another thing that makes me suspect that the animated series ignores the movie:

in the final animated episode, the Ruby burns down. But in the movie, it's there.

I suppose it could have been rebuilt, but still...

Huh, interesting. I didn't make it that far, but they might have been prophetic with at least one thing burning down...

Hoping for the continued safety of our BC- and Saskatchewan-based members tonight and tomorrow in particular because of climate/weather issues...

So today I tried the new Timmies Black Forest Ring Filled Dream Donut (wow that's a long name!). It probably didn't help my lockdown-ravaged waistline at all, but... OMG is it good!

Don't tempt me :)

Walk past a timmies going to and from the gym but the line up in the drive through is usually enough of a disincentive to ever go in :)

Was also an article yesterday in the Toronto Star about a coffee from tim horton's that isn't on the menu and buying one seems to be another case of internet stupidity. They call it gretsky and it's a coffee with 9 sugar and 9 creamers and apparently tastes terrible.

So, at the end of the day, nobody scores right?? Heck, I don't even order double doubles as I find them too sweet.

Wow, I bet it does! I mean, what's even the point? If that's what you want, you might as well just drink straight from the flavoured creamer container...

I ordered one of their new Cappuccinos last week, and they asked hot or cold, and I'm thinking, uhh regular cappuccino? So, I got my order and whoever prepared it got it completely wrong. They took their Icecap mix which is pre-sweetened and heated it up. :wtf: It was too late by the time I took my first sip, otherwise I would have returned with my displeasure. It tasted like a sweetened watery mess. But seriously, how can you mess up a cappuccino?? This is proof to me that they have too many products. If you even have to ask your customer after they've already told you, you're doing it wrong.

Earlier today I watched a Red Green episode where Harold mentions Traders (on which Patrick McKenna also appeared). So then I tried watching Traders as well, just to see what it was all about.

I have never been so confused in my life. I literally did not understand a word of it. It was like an alien language! I mean, in a way, it was still funny (esp. seeing McKenna playing a VERY un-Harold-like character)...I just felt so stupid, like I was missing a joke that everyone else got. :sigh:

Plus, the pace of the show was VERY frenetic. It was like there was a new shot every 2 or 3 seconds. I got rather dizzy after awhile!

But then again, I don't know jackshit about high finance or anything like that, so I don't know what I should have been expecting...

Edit: I heard that there is actually a Traders episode where they mention Possum Lodge. Now THAT would be...quite meta.

I think that was our take on The Office. Never watched it personally, but it was the other big show Patrick McKenna was involved with. Sadly, I don't really know what else he's been in. He should really be bigger of an actor than that.

Only other thing I can remember off the top of my head is the SG-1 episode "The Other Guys" (alongside John Billingsley).

Oh my, I'm silly. I just remembered he actually starred in a local show about our northern school of medicine. He played the head dean. And there's also another great Canadian series called Made in Canada/The Industry depending on where you look that is a Canadian who's who of talent, and McKenna is in it, alongside Rick Mercer and Peter Keleghan. Sadly, even though it lasted 5 seasons, it's another Canadian series that has all but disappeared and is not available anywhere for streaming.
