I really like how they're doing a weekly release. If it had all dropped yesterday, I would be avoiding this thread, because I didn't have the time to watch 8 episodes yesterday.Gotcha.
Now that we’ve spent a page and a half talking about Predator, back to The Mandalorian. New episode Friday!
I chuckle at some of the reviews complaining about the paucity of story or the length of the episode.
Remember when TV used to make us wait to see what happens next?
In the age of streaming and “bingeing” I guess some folks have forgotten what it’s like to not stuff the entire season into your brain in one sitting.

It's the first episode. You want to make a good impression. What I find more annoying these days is when people put the "hater" label on those who go against the group narrative.
My thoughts are my own and I still feel like when I was watching that episode, I felt a little lost. I said I'm going to give it a few episodes to get that "hook", but for this hyped up series for this entire year, I did expect a lot more. As for the length of the episode, I remember when first episodes were 2 hours long. This episode was only 40 minutes. Again, for as much as this show was hyped, is it wrong to think the episode should have at least been an hour?
What is there to get lost about?
Even if you had never seen Star Wars the story is "bounty hunter goes on mission" - it is not exactly David Lynch.

That's more on an EU thing. As far as canon is concerned, the xenophobic attitude is mostly just the military, and even then it's more of a cultural undertone than official policy (just like most actual militaries.) I mean think about it: the Empire is basically the Republic under new management, which means most of it's citizens (yes, even in the core worlds) are going to be non-humans. And to support that idea we've seen non-human Imperials on Rebels and in BF2.I'm not sure that's quite it either. An army of tiny green aliens doesn't seem to me like something the Empire/Imperial Remnant would want, since they've usually been portrayed as xenophobic.
It kind of is and it kind of knows that, but in the best way possible. It's also kind of awesome.Never seen predator. Looks like a stupid movie.
I don't really see where we needed details, all we really needed to know we could get through what was onscreen. That was just kind of the cold open of a James Bond movie, where he was finishing up one mission, before going on the new mission that will be the focus of the movie, or series in this case.If I didn't feel lost I probably could answer that question.
Seriously though it was the first 10-15 minutes. Like what planet were they on, where were we in relation to the overall Star Wars universe, the scene with the blue alien guy and I guess the Mandalorian's first mission. It really wasn't until we met the droid where things started coming together but that was the very end I feel like they had wasted the first half of the first episode.
I can't believe I live in a world where a bunch of pop sci-fi fans think that Predator sucks
Just took a quick glance at the ratings on imdb and rottentomatoes (for whatever those are worth) and it looks like people pretty much loved the first episode.and people still complain that none of it is good enough.
Not everything is for everyone.I can't believe I live in a world where a bunch of pop sci-fi fans think that Predator sucks and don't know who Apollo Creed is.
I agree with your point in general. However...
