The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026)

That puppet is complex.

Puppets are an on-set effect during production. Post-production is after filming. Unless you're talking about the need to digitally erase the puppeteers and rods from all the shots, but that's been a routine process for decades. (I think the earliest use of digital rod removal may have been in Back to the Future Part 2 with the hoverboards.)

It's more likely the CG animation that would take a long time in post, and it's good if Disney is giving the artists enough time to do it right and not be worked to the bone.

I'm pretty sure it was a joke; it was funny. Humor, it is a difficult concept.

Joke.

I'm sure glad it's being made.

I'm in zero hurry for a piece of media to be released.

Maybe they decided to hearken back to the old days of Star Wars film making and shoot everything on a blue screen. Chroma keying can take a while.

I'd rather see them take their time than rush it out just to keep fans happy.
I get that I am just surprised they could make 8 episodes in their first two years on a yearly basis but a 2 hour movie takes 2 years.

That's entirely typical. Movies are bigger, more elaborate productions with bigger budgets, and thus they not only need more time to get things done, but can afford to take the time to get it right.

Indeed.
For example, the show uses that dome screen thingie (can not be bothered to google that right now) for many sets. Perhaps this time more on location shooting around the world will be done for different environments, which will already add to the timetable significantly.

Cool! I wonder if we might be able to get at least a small clip or teaser by Celebration Japan in April?
It's a pretty safe bet they'll want to have *something* live action to show-off besides Andor (which will likely premier shortly after if not during the event) and there's literally nothing else in the pipeline far enough along to have anything to actually show. Even on the animation side of things; the only thing we know is coming for sure is 'Visions Vol 3', and that could also be releasing around the same time (previous seasons dropped in September & May, respectively.)

There's an outside chance there may be some "from the set" footage shown behind closed doors if something is filming around the time, as they did for Ahsoka in '22. Indeed, there's a non-zero percent chance it might be Ahsoka again as that's next up after Andor, and may be filming around that time . . . though it's also possible they may schedule a break in production that week to allow Filloni and a few key cast members to attend.

So yeah, a behind closed doors (that will inevitably leak) sizzle reel for the Mano & Grogu movie seems like the bare minimum they can bring.

Maybe another set of "Tales of the X" episodes will come out around then as well. Maybe announce a new animated series to follow The Bad Batch. Maybe one set around the time of the Mandalorian. Like an animated take on Rangers of the New Republic.
