The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026)

Sigourney Weaver confirmed she is in the movie

DEADLINE: And the next movie you’re going to film?

WEAVER: I’m playing a role in The Mandalorian & Grogu [which will be directed by Jon Favreau]. I got to meet Grogu for the first time the other day. I’m filming that before I go to London for The Tempest at the end of the year.

Wait, did we know she's in this? I don't remember hearing that before, and I'm pretty sure I would.

Damn, she's really built up quite the genre resume over the years, with the Aliens, Ghostbusters, Avatars, Marvel, and now Star Wars. Now she just needs to do Star Trek and DC ,and she'll have most of the biggest sci-fi franchises from the last few decades.

Galaxy Quest is an homage to 1960s-80s sci-fi TV in general, including a lot of Trek, a lot of Irwin Allen, some Space: 1999, and a great deal of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. But Star Trek is the only referent that most people today recognize, so they wrongly assume it's only a Trek parody.

Is The Mandalorian & Grogu not the movie that is supposed to be the big finale to the whole post-Return of the Jedi Thrawn storyline? I had assumed that was what it was, but I keep seeing people refer to that as a different movie.

I wonder if it is more a condensed version of the main fourth season plotline so they get Pablo Pascal back.

No, that's Filoni's movie.

Oh, I thought that was also this.

That would make sense, it's probably getting harder to get him with The Last of Us and all of the movies he's been doing a lately. And now that he's Mr. Fantastic for Marvel, he's probably going to get even busier on the movie front.

the Mandalorian got me hooked on Star Wars, something no prior movie or so ever could and it wasn't just down to the little fella.
Like the interesting Mandalorian culture, history and clan variations, as well as the compelling path of both Din and Grogu and other characters that were introduced (Kuiil, Carson Teva, the Night Owls, Boba Fett, Cobb Vanth aka the Marshal). Also dig their fighting style with rockets, blasters and close quarters combat.

While the end of season 3 nicely put bows on story arcs I'm looking forward to more adventures of Din and Grogu.
Hope we get to see Carson Teva and Cobb Vanth again, working with both of them.

It'll be verrry interesting to see how much, if any, setup this movie does towards Filoni's planned crossover Thrawn movie event. If Thrawn isn't M&G's main antagonist, and if Ahsoka S2 underperforms in D+ ratings, the average pop culture consumer will presumably have little to no sense of who Thawn, Ezra, Ahsoka, and the others are, and it would hardly be unsurprising, in that case, if said crossover movie ultimately didn't happen.

If Thrawn is M&G's main antagonist, and if Ezra plays a major role, that could be a sign Lucasfilm is indeed betting big on the crossover idea. But, if they aren't significant parts of the movie, and if the movie is mainly a self-contained story without major implications for the state of the universe, that could be Lucasfilm hedging its bets.
