The Lies of Locke Lamora: Anyone read it?

Hi all. As the title says, has anybody read The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch? I am reading it right now, and really enjoying it, but was wondering if there was anyone here who had read it, and if they had enjoyed it.

Yup, I read it a while back.

It's a ridiculously entertaining book, very funny, whimsy, yet very dramatic. It does at times seem like it was "written for film" like it's expecting to be adapted. Still, it's not a bad thing at all.

There were at least two or three times where I was pumping my fist with excitement at some of Locke's more elaborate cons. Best way to describe it is a medieval fantasy version of Ocean's Eleven, and there's one genuine 'holy shit' moment where the stakes go through the roof.

The follow-up, "Red Seas Under Red Skies" is also quite good, but at times feels very repetitive and following a similar formula, which seems standard for fantasy series... probably why I can never get more than 2 books into most fantasy series. Hopefully the 3rd, whenever it comes out, breaks out a little more.

I'm only on Part 2 of the story right now, but, like I said, I'm really enjoying things thus far. The narrative style is great, and the way that Scott Lynch intersperses the past and present portions of the story is very clever and engaging. The only nitpick I've got right now is that I wish he would've made Locke's age in the 'present' parts of the story more clear.

I liked it. Read both it and the sequel, although Lies is the better book, I think. The con is just better, and it has a great cast of characters.

It does at times seem like it was "written for film" like it's expecting to be adapted.

I know what you mean. Some of the banter between Jean and Locke would have made for great movie dialogue.
