The least disliked episode of DS9 - Season Two

Blood Oath is gone, another klingon episode. I don't care about those three klingons and Jadzia always felt like a wannabe klingon, I never believed she was actually into that culture.

To be fair that was just a trait inherited by Curzon, who's quite revered by Klingons.

I'll eliminate The Maquis (I), purely because I enjoy part two a little more.

The Homecoming
Necessary Evil
The Maquis (II)
The Wire
Tribunal
The Jem'Hadar

It's getting harder, I've pretty much enjoyed everything since the last twelve episodes.

I'm going to eliminate The Homecoming. I've never been a fan of that three-parter. That, and Invasive Procedures almost put me off DS9 at the time.

Necessary Evil
The Maquis (II)
The Wire
Tribunal
The Jem'Hadar

I'm killing Maquis (II), it's my least rewatched of the remaining episodes. Not a good reason but all remaining episodes are good.

Necessary Evil
The Wire
Tribunal
The Jem'Hadar

Tribunal is very good, but the others are better to varying degrees.

Necessary Evil
The Wire
The Jem'Hadar

I'm going to remove "The Wire"; of course, all these episodes are very good, but "Necessary Evil" deserves to win this, and I like "The Jem'Hader" just a little bit more than "The Wire"!

Necessary Evil
The Jem'Hadar

I'll take out The Wire. Undeniably a great episode, it relies heavily on Robinson's delivery. It's a series of monologues that our main characters react to. It also feels a little like Duet Redux. The episode gives some hints about Bashir's development.

Necessary Evil
The Jem'Hadar

Very close-run thing, but I'll give Necessary Evil the victory. The Jem'Hadar is a very good episode, but you can tell they're still trying to find their feet with the Dominion concept, whereas Necessary Evil benefits from Odo, Kira and Dukat already being well-defined characters, and expanding on them.

Never thought of "Necessary Evil" would end up last standing, but okay.

Really? In fan discussion I've always thought "Necessary Evil" was regarded as a consensus favorite of season 2, at the start of this round my assumption was that it would probably win.

Like "All Good Things" over on TNG, it's an episode I really like whose plot mechanics seem a bit creakier each time I go back to it. For that reason there's now maybe 2 or 3 others this year I prefer above it, but I also think "Necessary Evil" is a worthy winner. Some clunky mystery plotting aside, the character work is incredible, the Occupation-era station is vividly rendered, and the noir-ish vibe throughout it all is fantastic.
