The Least Disliked Episode 2023: PIC Final Rounds

BlueStuff

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Here we have the winners and runners-up of each season:

Season One: Remembrance
Wild Card: The Impossible Box
Season Two: The Star Gazer
Wild Card: Farewell
Season Three: No Win Scenario
Wild Card: Imposters

So now it's time for the final part.

*RULES*

Give what you consider to be the worst/your least favourite episode ONE point, and briefly explain WHY. Be sure to copy and paste the list with your point added. When an episode reaches 4 points, it is eliminated. Then a NEW round begins (in this thread) with the numbers restored to 0. Vote ONCE per round. If 48 hours without a vote passes, the episode currently leading in points will be eliminated, and a new round will begin. And enjoy! :bolian:

An easy vote for Farewell - I was completely done with season 2 by this point, so I'd like to be done with it now.

Remembrance - 0
The Impossible Box - 0
The Star Gazer - 0
Farewell - 1
No Win Scenario - 0
Imposters - 0

I will also vote for "Farewell".

While it mostly stuck the landing... something the current era of ST just couldn't seem to do at this point... it's rather damning with faint praise by comparison. The Q scenes with Picard were magnificent, though.

I vote for "Remembrance". It set the stage for how far season 1 would go off the rails. That crazy backstory info dump interview a la Fox News. Production design by Ikea. Costuming by the outlet mall down the street. Picard waking up on the couch after getting hit in an explosion. Space Irish Romulans. Romulans beaming down to grab Dadj when they should have just beamed her up. Complete blindness to Lal in the "daughter painting" plot. Finally Jurati is a character off a Joss Whedon show.

Farewell - 2

I'll also do "Remembrance." I do love it as it's own piece, but it is true that most of its power is derived from cheating. There is no easier task than creating an incredible beginning of something -- if you're not going to pay off what you set up.

I would counter-sign pretty much all of @cal888 's complaints -- except I love Jurati and am always happy to handwave away a convenient transporter failure.

I'll vote for Farwell. The Q stuff was brilliant, and I enjoyed Queen Jurati too. It all felt like so much of a rush getting to a somewhat decent finale, despite the storyline dragging for so many weeks.

I know that it led to the pretty awesome S3, but the way the original PIC characters were shafted still bugs me.

I’ll be the fourth for Farewell. My biggest gripe with season 2 is that it drags and then rushes. Loved the Q parts though. For the next round I’m going with The Star Gazer. I enjoyed it but honestly just felt really let down by season 2 just feeling so rambling.

My vote this round goes to "The Star Gazer".

Great start for the season, but season 2 was the worst in the franchise. Because of the nature of the severe serialization, this episode is brought down by the rest of the season.

Agreed. As good as it seemed at the time, The Star Gazer was the best episode in a very hit-and-miss season.

Bringing "Remembrance" back up for a vote. I found season 1 worse than season 2. It all started with this episode. Whearas "The Impossible Box" is the least objectionable of the season, so hopefully it lasts longer this time.

I will vote for "The Impossible Box" for this round.

I was torn between this and "Remembrance", but considering my feelings at the time it premiered, being excited to see Jean-Luc Picard back with new episodes of his life, and how it began with his dream in Ten Forward with Data, that one edges out as a fond memory.

As much as it was great having Picard back, I'll go for Remembrance this time. The Impossible Box is just a better episode.

The Impossible Box - 3

The Impossible Box is done. And I’ll start the next round by voting for Remembrance - obviously, superior S3 episodes need to survive.

Voting for "Remembrance". The only reason it lasted this long was because of my feelings when it first aired... excitement about new adventures with Jean-Luc Picard. Like what happened with the season 2 premiere, this episode is brought down by the rest of the season due to how heavily serialized it is.

The season 3 episodes are far, far superior.

Agreed that S3 is superior to S1. I loved Remembrance, but it's just no match for the other two. And I say that as someone who liked a lot of S1.

Remembrance - 3
No Win Scenario - 0
Imposters - 0

I'll finish off "Remembrance" and give my last point to "Imposters." It is the only episode of season 3 I have only needed to watch once, whereas all the others I've watched into the ground.

"No Win Scenario" is really delightful for the ease with which it folds one of the most classic Trek episodic plots ("this seeming threat is really just new alien life we don't understand yet!") into their larger serialized narrative, without compromising either one.
