I think Nepenthe gets a little overrated. Plenty of good stuff in that one, but also plenty of bad because it’s in the second half of S1. Which is very bad.

The Bounty. Nepenthe showed a beautiful reunion of old friends and I find characters not getting happy endings and drifting apart quite compelling in its tragedy.

For what it’s worth, I’m skeptical that any participant actually believes there’s real depth behind the relevance of a given winner. Only, like, 0.00000000000001% of the audience is playing, after all! My least favourite episode in the entire series might have won - it didn’t, but anything is possible! - and I would not have dwelt on it. It truly is just a game.

It is - and for me, the arbitrary randomness is a feature; not a bug. If we want to know the most popular episodes, we can just start a poll asking that very question. Job done. The unpredictable nature of the game is what makes it fun every time we play.

Correct! I don't think anyone here is trying to get an accurate gauge of an episode's popularity. We all already know what the consensus is on the top episodes.

For me, these are the antidote to the boring predictability of a best episode discussion/poll. Instead, let's take a bunch of VERY different systems of Trek taste, toss them into a chaotic & rapid fire elimination format, and see what comes out.
