The Least Disliked Episode 2023: DISCO Final Rounds

BlueStuff

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Here we have the winners and runners-up of each season:

Season One: Into the Forest I Go
Wild Card: Context Is for Kings
Season Two: If Memory Serves
Wild Card: New Eden
Season Three: People of Earth
Wild Card: Forget Me Not
Season Four: Species Ten-C
Wild Card: Rosetta

So now it's time for the final part.

*RULES*

Give what you consider to be the worst/your least favourite episode ONE point, and briefly explain WHY. Be sure to copy and paste the list with your point added. When an episode reaches 4 points, it is eliminated. Then a NEW round begins (in this thread) with the numbers restored to 0. Vote ONCE per round. If 48 hours without a vote passes, the episode currently leading in points will be eliminated, and a new round will begin. And enjoy! :bolian:

"Into The Forest I Go" by A MILE. The script is a complete mess. The characters are jerked around randomly as the writers desperately try to wrap up this mess of a plot. The Cornwell/L'Rell arc is incoherent.

My vote this round is "Into the Forest I Go".

Easily the worst episode on this list, and it's not even close.

I liked it, but Into the Forest I Go is the worst one here, so I will go with the consensus.

I’ll be the fourth and eliminate into the Forest I Go because I agree it’s the weakest one here (*Full disclosure I haven’t seen the bottom two yet so I won’t vote for/against those).

For the next round I’m going with Forget Me Not. Though it was fun to see Trill and I get what they are trying to do with Saru and crew’s story it was a sloppy episode to me. I actually feel like separating the A and B story into two separate episodes would have let them more fully play out each story in a more interesting way.

My vote this round is "Forget Me Not".

I was going to vote for "Context Is For Kings", but ReddishAlert makes a good point about how disjointed the A and B stories are. I had forgotten about that, and for an episode that is titled in a way that I should not forget, I will vote accordingly.

I'll go with Context is for Kings next. It's a good, not great episode and I can't bring myself to vote for the others yet.

I'll go "Forget Me Not." I love this episode, but I love all of these.

But this episode I'll give my point because of the Sideshow-Bob-stepping-on-the-rakes insanity of, immediately after spending an entire season digging themselves out of TV's most repulsive "Kill Your Gays" storyline, they then introduced Trek's very first trans character already dead!

When the audience was outraged that the debut of Trek's first queer characters was immediately followed by violent murder, the correction we were seeking there was not to have future LGBTQ characters arrive pre-killed.

It is just beyond amazing to me that this writers room walked right into this same buzzsaw TWICE.

I finished season 4 so now I have seen all the episodes. I like all of these episodes left quite a bit and almost can’t do this because Lorca is so great in it…but I’m gonna go for Context is for Kings not so much because of any complaint with it as the others I just really, really, really like…

I'll eliminate "Context Is For Kings." I love it as an episode, but all these others represent what Disco actually grew into. "Context Is For Kings" is an altered take on what Discovery could have been, before the show (finally) settled on a different identity for itself.

I'll give my first point for the next round to "New Eden" for basically the same reasons. Great ep, but, once "Context" is gone, the roughest draft still on the board.

I am still feeling a pang for that poor guy they left behind. Now I think I need to put on TNG: "First Contact" to see the happier ending of that arc, with Mirasta Yale.

And I'll eliminate New Eden. I really like it, but the others are just better. Dull, but true.

I feel like flipping a coin for these last few episodes. I'll just plump for Rosetta as the others have more memorable moments in them for me.

Species Ten-C - 0

Pretty much a toss up with what's left. All good ones. I'm going to flip a coin for this.

Round 1: season 2, heads... season 3, tails
(flips coin, lands on heads)

Round 2: "Species 10-C", heads... "Rosetta", tails
(flips coin, lands on heads)

Final round: "People of Earth", heads... "Rosetta", tails
(flips coin, lands on heads)

"Rosetta" loses the coin toss, and is therefore my vote for this round.

(I have to say, I'm surprised I flipped three heads in a row.)

People of Earth - 0
Species Ten-C - 0
Rosetta - 2

I’ll eliminate Rosetta. It’s an excellent episode but I think of it kind of like a two parter with Species Ten-C and this is one of the rare occasions I think the resolution is even better than you imagine by the set up. For the next round, I’m going to go with If Memory Serves. I love it but mainly for Pike and so I’m going to favor the two I love for Discovery characters. Also, I just think season 4 is a little better than 2*

Species Ten-C - 0
