The least disliked episode 2021 - DS9 Season Three

I'll remove Family Business. Not a terrible Ferengi episode, but I like everything else much more.

The Search (I)
Civil Defense
Visionary
Improbable Cause
The Die is Cast
The Adversary

Removing Visionary. A pretty ordinary episode when all the rest of the episodes are top shelf.

The Search (I)
Civil Defense
Improbable Cause
The Die is Cast
The Adversary

The Search 1, just because having Odo act like a homing beacon had been activated after they talked about the Omarion nebula was a bit too easy as a solution to the mystery of his origin.

Civil Defense
Improbable Cause
The Die is Cast
The Adversary

The Adversary. An overall good story undermined by the fact that we're supposed to feel suspense over the Defiant possibly starting a war with some species we've never heard of before, don't see on-screen, and never hear about again after this episode.

Civil Defense
Improbable Cause
The Die is Cast

Civil Defense, while quite a suspenseful story is not as good as the Improbable Cause/Die is Cast two-parter.

Improbable Cause
The Die is Cast

The Die is Cast is out, the first part is simply better and the torture in part 2 makes me uncomfortable.

Improbable Cause wins.

Previous season three winners and runners-up.

2011 - The Die is Cast; Past Tense I
2013 - The Die is Cast; Improbable Cause
2015 - The Die is Cast; Improbable Cause
2017 - Improbable Cause; The Die is Cast
2019 - Improbable Cause; The Adversary

So in six cycles, only two people have ever deemed another episode in the season better than either of them.

Well, that's not exactly true. That's the two people who happened to vote at that point. If others were in their place they could have voted the same. So it's not the people who "deemed" it's the people who "deemed and voted" which is a smaller set.
