Nathan Drake finds her being held captive by Big Boss.
I figured I was going to get this response.
Fantastic Intro to this show
Pascal is unsurprisingly good ( i can't remember him turning in a bad performance), the worldbuilding was excellent and you can see the big money onscreen they sunk into the show. Bella Ramsey will have an absolutely bright future in the acting business if she sticks with it, her GoT at times was a bit overacted but she was far younger there ( but still good), however you can see the few years of experience here.
I don't know the plot since i never played the game and fortunately didn't read a synopsis so i'm completely unspoiled but i guessed Ellie's secret as soon as they made an issue of it - she is apparently immune to the zombie fungus and that makes her a invaluable price and a high priority target once word comes out. I'm curious where the story goes but just by going by the game's reputation as one of the best stories ever done i have high expectations.
One question - was it talked about if this season will cover the first game completely and will there be more seasons, where they have to branch off if they run out of game story, you know - the GoT fiasco.

The season covers the entire first game. No official word of a second season.
Season 1 covers the entirety of the first game and the side story "Left Behind".
As for running out of track ala GoT: TLOU's creator Neil Druckmann has been very protective of the IP. Previously, he pulled out of a movie deal after the studio wanted to condense the story into one film. Personally, I don't think there's much chance of Neil wanting to move past the events of the games - certainly not before TLOU III (which hasn't been announced and would be several years down the track if it were).
I could see them expanding the story of the second game into two seasons. But as mentioned above, no word on a second season yet.

Not that it needs to be said, but anyone wishing to remain spoiler-free best resist googling anything about the games.
Yeah, the stories of both games take some pretty big twists and turns, so I wouldn't look up any synopsis for the games if you want to be surprised.
I'm a huge fan of the games, and I thought this was a fantastic start to the series. Obviously the expanded on a lot of stuff, but it really worked well, and did a great job of expanding the story from the game. It probably helps that Neil Druckman co-wrote it.

I was just on IGN and they have a gallery of pictures from the show and game, and there are some shots in the show that are almost exact recreations of shots from the game.
I didn't quite get the point of that. I understand that it was setting up the cordyceps outbreak, I just don't get why they set all the way back in the '60s. It would have worked just as well if it was something from 2003 that Joel or Sarah were watching.

It was pretty much only there for the global warming reference. At that time it was acknowledged as a possibility, and I think scientists started finding evidence of rising CO2 levels in the 1950s, but it wasn't until around 20 years ago that the effects of global warming were really becoming noticeable. So the timeline fits with both the 1968 part of the prologue and the 2003 part (which was moved up from the game's prologue set in 2013), since it would also take time for the cordyceps fungus to adapt to the warming global temperatures instead of something that would happen immediately.
The 2003 part is interesting because this past week there was a story this past week about how Exxon's own scientists predicted increasing yearly temperatures due to rise of carbon emissions in the 70s and Exxon kept that stuff secret. Their own internal projections for global warming projecting 1977-2003 ended up being even more accurate than one done by NASA for a similar time period.
Still this was 1968 so almost a decade earlier, but I'm sure you still had some in the scientific community believing and beginning to compile data to examine it.
But still interesting the projection was through 2003 and this show/story featuring the ramifications of global warming had this catastrophic event occur in 2003 because of the Fungus adapting to survive the warmer temperatures.

I also should have said I think it was also just about setting up the danger of a potential fungal infection, since one on the scale presented in the show is considered pretty unlikely. Then I think the global warming thing was just a way to justify it, since I don't think the cause was ever explicitly laid out in the first game. (I haven't played the second, so I can't comment there.)
He wasn't immune. Where he came from is anyone's guess, but it appeared the initial stages of the infection had started to run their course (no speech).
We saw his body in the back of the truck carrying corpses when they revealed 2023 Joel. I assume they euthanized him.
