The Last Jedi - Actually Widely Hated?

With that out of the way, the movie went out of its way to troll internet fandom. To me it almost felt like it was breaking the 4th wall several times. I actually enjoyed that aspect, but I could see how some would be offended by it.

I don’t think it was trolling, although a minority of fans seem to be easily upset over nothing and Rian Johnson has been happy to fuck with them. They deserve it though. If you harass some poor actress because women scare you or you hate Asian people, you deserve all the shit you get.

I feel like it was written in a way that was directly talking to the Youtube video making fanbase. Ok we are about to address your theory about ___. And you were WRONG, WRONG ABOUT EVERYTHING STOP MAKING VIDEOS!!!!

That's the vibe I was getting from the movie. I could have misinterpreted, but I have spoken to many who felt the same way.
 
I think it was just an attempt to subvert most fan expectations. Not only those on YouTube. Frankly, I liked the surprise. If I knew exactly what I was walking into, I might have been a little disappointed.

That’s like saying a puddle was designed it to gather water in that shape and not a puddle just forming where the ground isn’t perfectly flat or at an angle. YouTubers complain about it because they need something to talk about and it happened to exist. They would complain like it was the worst thing that happened no matter what happened in the movie. They want to make money, so they rile up their viewers who spread the videos, which just gives him more views and makes YouTube’s algorithm spread it more. It rewards controversy because people will watch it just to complain about the YouTuber and make videos tearing it apart.

I agree, I enjoyed it too. But like I said, I could see how someone could take offense.

I should stop saying "Youtube". I just meant the hardcore fandom. Campe phrased my thoughts better than I did.

I wouldn’t call them the hardcore fandom, they’re still buying stuff. This is just toxic assholes who thrive on negativity and YouTube is adding gasoline to a that fire.

There’s also various white supremacist groups using them to gain support by stoking fears of diversity and identity politics and indoctrinating viewers into more extreme views. They did it with gamers through Gamergate a few years before using the same tactics. There are some YouTubers who managed to break away and now try to help others see how they’re being used and brainwashed by making videos detailing how it works and why it’s wrong.
 
How did Kylo Ren get the Silencer our of that crevice.. when he blasted the hangar with missiles.? He was so far inside when he fire that there was no way he could have flown out

Because they're literally whiners who love playing the victim and think people are out to get them. And also have an overinflated sense of their own importance. Clearly, this movie was done to THEM!

No one was "speaking to them" through the movie or mocking them. Rian Johnson made the movie he wanted to make that made sense to him. Their pet theories and youtube videos were never, ever part of the equation and that's (at least partly) why they're so bitter.

I don't agree. As a self professed hardcore Star Wars fan, I am sure Rian Johnson followed the fan theories, and steered his story intentionally in the opposite direction.
 
I admit, the design of the Raddeus is in the typical Star Wars form over function that we see a lot. Why the hanger is behind armor doesn't make a ton of sense. Unfortunately, I was unable to screengrab, but it does appear that there are several other gaps that Kylo could have escaped through in the hull after firing the missles.

But who defines those rules? Can the rules grow and change at all? It can become a little stagnant if you go into the movie fully knowing what to expect because of the rules.

Sci-fi and fantasy movies are and have always been great at bending the rules as they pertain to physics. Not a great example. Besides, who’s to say that physics works the same way in the GFFA as it it does here?
