The Last Jedi - Actually Widely Hated?

Star Wars was expected to fail at the box office, so the PG rating maybe offered a little more teeth but not by much.

The fact that it was a success was a surprise to Fox.

But, not there is no disputing it was made for kids. But, those kids and teens have now grown up, developing a greater, more colorful, view of the world. It is not "black and white" as the original Star Wars presents it. It is why TFA and TLJ are films I can enjoy now as an adult because I've had similar experiences or emotions to Luke or Han. It's actually quite interesting to see this films "grow up" with me in a sense.

It might not be for everyone but it is certainly for me.
 
The OT also appealed to adults, not just kids. Every adult in my family enjoyed those films just as much the kids did. No, the reason the OT is looked on more fondly than the PT is because it was just so much better. Period. Same goes for Back to the Future and the Indiana Jones trilogy. They were films that the entire family couldn't wait to see. They weren't just made for one target demographic as the revisionists seem to be trying to twist it.

Exactly. "All ages" movies aren't by default "kids' movies." They're for all ages!

My dad couldn't get into Star Wars at all, because it was too much a fairy tale for him...

I get it. If you look at it completely in a vacuum, the original 1977 Star Wars can be offputting. Robots? A big asthmatic guy with a mask and an iron lung? A princess with cinnamon buns attached to her head? And that’s just the first five minutes!
 
I’m trying to figure out exactly what is going on in that link. The words are English. But it’s kind of a mess on my phone. I think what it is is a bunch of gossip from an anonymous source that is completely uncorroborated about someone who did no but no longer works behind the scenes at LFL. And someone doesn’t like that she was a woman. Or something like that. I’m not sure.

It is poorly formatted to be sure, but it also relies strongly on speculation, anonymous sources, and innuendo. I do not put much stock in it. Not just because I don't have a problem with Disney's handling of Star Wars at this point, but more because it is highly repetitive in the same old talking points about how Johnson "jettisoned" Abrams' original plan, or how the Story Group is a cabal running the whole thing.

It smacks of conspiracy level writing, and doesn't even do the solid of providing any proof beyond "anonymous sources." At least most conspiracy theory sites I enjoy cite their sources and information.

Well, yes. Not to mention the considerable focus of the GeekGate talking points: "SJWs." "Social agendas." All that good stuff.

That and the website name changing one letter from a slightly more reputable news source from "Bleeding Cool" to "Bleeding Fool." Kinda like "Comic Book News" vs "Cosmic Book News."
