yes because in novels they aren't doing it to make millions on merchandising and box office bucks
It's highly amusing to think that Star Wars wasn't ever made to make money. Dare I say that is quite a naive point of view on the nature of a franchise like SW.yes because in novels they aren't doing it to make millions on merchandising and box office bucks
It wasn't just books, and that is fairly common knowledge. More importantly, Star Wars was always made with a profit motive. This is neither new because of Disney and isn't offensive for a company to make money off of its property. Lucas did it, Roddenberry did it, Disney does it, and on and on.books ever only mak a fraction of what the films do
books ever only make a fraction of what the films do
don't be disingenuous
How dare they?yes
But Disney didn't spend 4 billion to publish books. They did to sell merchandise and theme park tickets
yes everyone wants to make a profit.. even George did. But he could have made American Graffiti 2 (which did get made eventually) but instead he wanted to tell a story for a generation growing up without fairy tales, so profit wasn't THE reason he made SW. He wanted to tell the hero's journey.. that was the story. How dare they?![]()
Nope. Just no.The sequels are made just to capitalize on the brand and sell tickets

you would not say that about Empire if you saw Empire of Dreams. Yeah sure they knew they had a successful product but Kirsh refused to direct it because of what the story meant, and when he did agree to do it, he wanted it to rise to the occassion. That begins with "The Star Wars Holiday Special" and The Empire Strikes Back.

Lucas funded it himselfNobody funds Empire... if Star Wars was a minor hit, or a flop. It only exists because of the popularity of the preceding movie.
Lucas funded it himself
And Abrams wanted to make a Star Wars story because of the impact it had on him.you would not say that about Empire if you saw Empire of Dreams. He also should have been fired for ruining SW with The Phantom Menace! All that terrible CGI and stupid innane characters no one likes!Guess Lucas should have been fired because of it.![]()

I'm half joking, but at the same time, having been on internet boards during the PT era the level of vitriol directed at the ST is highly amusing if it were not so repetitive.
That phrasing still angers me to this day.Yes, because apparently those fans had their childhoods “raped” by the prequels. A terrible phrase beginning a terrible period of entitled fandom.
