The James Bond Film Discussion Thread (With Bonus Lazenby!)

And next year will mark 60 since Donald Pleasance's iconic turn as Blofeld in YOLT.
And the all-time awkwardness of Connery trying to play Japanese with one of his more unconvincing toupees.

Connery+Japanese

I never read YOLT, was Bond disguised as an Asian in the novel, or was it only something that was cooked up for the movie; and if he was disguised, was there a reasonable explanation.

I think the worst thing is that its pointless. No one from SPECTRE is paying attention to the villagers!
I don't know if that's completely true.

The cave is set with poison gas. Who else but the villagers are there, against whom such a defense would be effective, one that would seem to be a natural occurrence? SPECTRE seems to have assessed the threat they pose as one that can be effectively countered by such means.

But yeah, I would agree it would have been more interesting, if there had been at least one SPECTRE agent among the villagers. I don't recall one. Maybe they're supposed to be too tightknit for that, with only the Japanese government having the ins with the village elders?

In the book he dyes his hair black and even alters his skin color while acting like a local fisherman.

That song is the best part of the movie. Certainly the most watchable part.
Peter O'Toole is the best part of the movie.

There are actually a distressingly large number of thing about CR67 that are good. (I might say David Niven and John Huston just because I like David Niven and John Huston.) It's just none of them are connected to anything and nothing matches up.
