The James Bond Film Discussion Thread (With Bonus Lazenby!)

Age is a funny thing you could argue Brosnan at 41 doesn't look much older than Connery at 32 or George at 28.

I really can't see Holland as Bond, but maybe I just can't divest him from Peter Parker.

Age wise I don't think a young Bond is necessarily a terrible idea (depending how young) It isn't completely accurate but in terms of the Royal Navy Bond would spend:

12 months as a midshipman.
2 years as a sub Lieutenant
3/4 years as a Lieutenant
3/4 years as a lieutenant commander

Assuming James joined up at 18, and assuming the minimal time between promotions, he could be a Commander by the time he's 27, it certainly seems viable for him to be a Commander by the age of 30 at which point maybe he's recruited by MI6.

You'd hope he wouldn't be a rookie 00 again, so add in three years experience and a 33 year old 007 isn't a completely crazy idea.

You could also factor in quick promotions earlier down the ladder because he's so awesome.

To be fair, apparently Dalton was offered Bond in 1969 for OHMSS or in 1971 for LALD (he seems to tell it both ways) and would have only been 23/25.
I’ve always been suspicious of that claim; always had the impression that Eon came out with it to make up for the fact that he was a very public second choice to Pierce. He may well have been shortlisted or longlisted at those times and definitely on their radar, but I’m not convinced he was offered the role outright.

A few places are saying he won't get the final cut, though this seems to originate with a Hollywood insider named Puck?

Also seen a rumour that Nolan was Amazon's first choice but the final cut stipulation was the deal breaker

Radio Times says he's not getting final cut. It's the Sun that's the (false) Bond rumor mill, right?
As far as I understand, in the previous Bond films, while the Broccolis were deciding how the Bond films would end, the directors never included it in the final cut. The same thing happens, Amazon wants to continue.

Barbara and Michael ALWAYS had the final say.
