The James Bond Film Discussion Thread (With Bonus Lazenby!)

A bit off topic, but I watched this video of Elvis Presley's 'A Little Less Conversation' and I thought, "Wow. Given the opportunity to stretch his acting muscles, he could have pulled off an American 'Bond-like' character, instead of being saddled with these cheesy musicals." IMO, he has the charisma/swagger to pull it off.

I liked him in Charro!.

I was thinking more the lifestyle and product recommendation articles?! TBH, I've read one issue of Playboy in my entire life, it was when I was 19 and curious (and there probably was a celebrity taking her clothes off that made me buy that particular issue). It was the early 00s, and it was the German edition, but i was struck by how little of the issue were the famous pictorials, and how much of it was about adventure vacations and high-class brands. At the end of it I thought, this really is the kind of magazine James Bond would read.
If memory serves, the lazenby bond actually reads playboy in the movie….

I have read a couple of biographies of him. And a lot of people said that he was a good actor and could have become a better one with a good script

Charro was a darn decent B movie faux spaghetti western and Elvis did a good job as a "Man with No Name" style character. Probably his best non-musical performance and one that shows he could have pulled off a legitimate acting career but for the Colonel.

About 20 years ago my late mother used to think Owen was the best possible replacement for Pierce Brosnan and wanted him to get the role.

Was Clive Owen ever offered the role?
He claims to have been, though I would imagine that it was more likely an invitation to audition or discuss than simply being told that the role was his if he wanted it.

When I saw Croupier I thought he’d be an excellent Bond but the more I saw of him, the more I think he’s suited to slightly offbeat, weary and reluctant heroes and less to someone like 007. But a lot of actors bring their own persona to Bond and make it work and he could well have done so too.

Owen was talked about a lot. By the Broccolis? No idea.

So. I know the Bond spin off I want to see: Young M. Like based on Benard Lee (Winston Churchill) Sir Miles Messervy original M.

During WWI or maybe the 1920s / 30s. (I suppose it could be in the 1980's for a current M. As long as it's NOT in the 1960's.)

Eeesh. I suppose a "modern day" M would have been making his bones after the cold war at this point. Yikes!

EDIT: If you want to do Young Judi M then I'm on board with that too!

Something that may or may not be of interest to people, but I recently did a deep dive into actors who had parts in Bond and Blakes 7. A trifle niche so feel free to ignore ;)
That was an enjoyable read. I do enjoy a bit of spotting Brit thesps and character actors in blockbusters, be it vintage Bond or even 2022’s The Batman. Tomorrow Never Dies is probably the best recent ish 007 film for spotting various graduates of Corrie etc as well as future names like Pip Torrens or Jason Watkins.
