The James Bond Film Discussion Thread (With Bonus Lazenby!)

"You are just a stupid policeman." Even Dr. No felt disappointed by Bond's abilities in the end.

Bond just sticks out like a sore thumb wherever he goes. Can't help himself. Isn't the idea not to draw attention toward one's self? He needs to be more like the guy pushing the broom in the corridor, or the guy you see in the supermarket pushing a cart full of frozen dinners and Diet Cokes.
He’s more like the guy in Quantum of Solace pushing the broom about a foot above the ground

Must be the cousin of the Skiff Guard who got air-kicked in the face by Luke Skywalker. ;)

Bond isn't really a spy though, he's an assassin, a blunt instrument whose job is to provoke and confront.

And he does that job very well ;)

This is true. It would be helpful if he could just try to be a little less conspicuous.

Oh. Wait. He tried that in Japan. And stuck out even more! And almost got stuck himself!

Maybe he should just stick to sniping targets from the shadows, and leave the espionage to Q. It's all digital now, anyway.

He means when they reprised the "Secret Agent" holosuite program in the episode "A Simple Investigation." It was just the one scene of Bashir sitting in a limo in a tuxedo, it was so generic it could have been anything.
Did it have Falcon in it? Been a while since I saw it but seem to remember O'Brien was playing Falcon the program with Bashir this time.

Memory Alpha does indeed say, "After this episode [Our Man Bashir] aired, the producers got an angry letter from MGM."

Wow, I wonder if MGM had also wasted that much angry energy on the myriad Eurospy flicks and other spy-fi Bond knockoffs and parodies of the prior three decades.

MGM didn't have a stake in Bond until the early 1980s when Kirk Kerkorian bought United Artists and merged them into MGM/UA, so I doubt they wasted any energy on the Bond knockoffs of the '60s.

edit: OTOH, I do remember them getting pissy about the title Goldmember for the third Austin Powers movie. Clearly they let the title ride, apparently in exchange for showing trailers to Die Another Day and LOTR: The Two Towers.

I recall hearing their complaints about Goldmember were thrown out the moment it was pointed out they didn't raise a fuss at all over The Spy Who Shagged Me.

I just saw a video of Brosnan speaking at Connery's AFI ceremony and he walked out to Arnold's The World is Not Enough. 1) That was a LONG time ago. 2) That's a damn good song. 3) I guess they didn't want Pierce walking out to the Bond theme when Sean was sitting right there. :D
