Not that I want an American actor to play Bond (I say that, I'm sure there could be some good ones who would still do the accent correctly) but it's funny that an American Bond is right out, but Scots, Welsh, Aussie, Kiwis! Any other English speaking nation is fine! (OK, nobody has ever suggest Canadian I suppose.)

You have to be from a current or former member of the the Commonwealth of Nations, and America isn't one. The original 1926 members are, Australia, Canada, Ireland (1926-1949), New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.

So sad. I always wanted Neil and Brosnan to play brothers in a film. Not that it was likely before but impossible now.

Well im not sure the accent in Bridget Jones is a good one, its a bit, well not British really.

Of course my Dick Van Dyke comment was meant to be tongue in cheek.

I can't really say much as one of my favourite film and tv franchises, Highlander, was all over the place with accents, Christopher Lambert and Adrian Paul, neither are Scottish although Paul does a passable Scottish accent in flashbacks but sounds American in present day despite being English.

Also Brosnan doesn't really pull off a British accent, he sounds like, well, Pierce Brosnan who doesn't have a particularly strong Irish accent which is probably down to the time spent in the states.

Hmm, I always thought Sam and Hugo Weaving would make convincing brothers. I think Sam said he was offered a role in LOTR but didn’t take it; he was too polite to say what it was, but I’ve always assumed it was Elrond. Though I did see someone on twitter say that they would’ve loved to see him play Bond’s villainous brother opposite Brosnan, so I guess people must see that resemblance too.

Its rumoured it was Gandalf.

And don't get me started on the manchester accents in Frasier

To be fair, the Manc accent in mostly anything. Or the Geordie.
