The James Bond Film Discussion Thread (With Bonus Lazenby!)

I have my own theory on this, frankly - which kinda tracks with the John Gardner/Raymond Benson novelverse? Basicallty the Connery/Lazenby/Moore entries are one major timeline (with NSNA as the unofficial cap to that story), and the Dalton/Brosnan entries as a modern sequel to the Fleming originals (or i if you prefer, set after the Fleming originals but slightly retconned) like the aforementioned Gardner/Benson books are.

Obviously we all agree the Daniel Craig movies are their own thing, rather decidedly.

I'd say that the Connery/Lazernby/Moore films are running on their own vaguely similar parallel timelines (with Connery having Aki as his lost love instead of Traci, etc, and Moore's own Traci Bond being a different woman dying for different reasons to Lazernby's), with Dalton/Brosnan running their own even more similar parallel timelines (with Craig and Gibson running their own convergent timelines decades later on in the 21st century).

I know it won't happen, but I wish we could get a Bond film with Patrick Gibson (and maybe the other cast from First Light). I'm watching a playthrough of it and he's pretty good IMO.

He is really good, having played it through twice now

Just to be clear. I think the idea that 007 is a codename is ludicrous (if only because it'd mean the new guy always had to alter his personality to match the previous guy!) and the idea that Connery in the Rock is 007 is dumb as well...

But...this is still really nicely done.

I think 007 is because there was a new 007 in NTTD.

That James Bond is a codename, well I doubt thats ever been the case.

Ooh a Bond Video about the Brosnan Bond

It's amazing how Bonds (and people) age in and out. I think TWINE is Brosnan at his perfect Bond age. (Not to say anything bad about Goldeneye and TND.) And by DAD he was a tiny bit past it. Like Connery was perfect in Goldfinger / Thunderball but by YOLT he was just aging out of it.

AND Brosnan did The Thomas Crown Affair the same year.

I do feel like "I don't know any Doctor jokes" is a line that only Brosnan could sell. He was this amazing mix of Connery's steel and Moore's goofyness.

If Goldeneye wasn't so perfect on every level this would be my favorite Brosnan.

RIP Desmond.

Hmmm. I hope she was only referring to the idea of James Bond as a woman and not opposing the idea of him being played by a person of colour. Though as she’s not casting this movie, it doesn’t really matter:

Unless the interviewer said "Not male" and then the article put in "Not person of not color" just for laughs (which would be rather shameful) then she said "No."

Why? You think it's so unthinkable, with a reference to Ian Fleming no less, that she wasn't answering the question they printed?
It’s possible but I still think she may issue a statement saying she misheard or misunderstood or was just talking shout s female Bond.

She may or may not be telling the truth but I wouldn’t be surprised if or when she does so.

Yikes. This is so unthinkable an opinion that a 75 year old retired woman might lie rather than admit that she holds it? What would happen to her if she doesn't?

So sad. I always wanted Neil and Brosnan to play brothers in a film. Not that it was likely before but impossible now.

Not that I want an American actor to play Bond (I say that, I'm sure there could be some good ones who would still do the accent correctly) but it's funny that an American Bond is right out, but Scots, Welsh, Aussie, Kiwis! Any other English speaking nation is fine! :D (OK, nobody has ever suggest Canadian I suppose.)

Hmm, I always thought Sam and Hugo Weaving would make convincing brothers. I think Sam said he was offered a role in LOTR but didn’t take it; he was too polite to say what it was, but I’ve always assumed it was Elrond. Though I did see someone on twitter say that they would’ve loved to see him play Bond’s villainous brother opposite Brosnan, so I guess people must see that resemblance too.

I think it's the eyes. I would have loved to have seen them in a buddy comedy.
