The iPhone 5 Thread

As a satisfied iPhone 4S customer, I really don't have a need to upgrade. My phone is perfectly fine and not quite a year old. I have no complaints and it does what I need it to. My previous phone was an iPhone 3G which I had for three years. I don't need to have the latest and greatest device out there. I don't automatically get a new phone every two years. I try to make them last a bit longer.

Still using my iPhone 4. I upgraded from the 3G when it didn't perform well with the software upgrades. I'm intrigued by the 5 having a slightly larger screen, the option for much larger memory capacity, the better camera, the panorama option with the picture taking, plus stuff like Siri which came with the 4S. However, there's nothing wrong with my 4, and I'd feel rather stupid throwing down the cash for a new one when the old one works fine.

My iPhone 4S is just fine, not much about the 5 that looks worth the upgrade so I'll be waiting for the 6 probably.

I do like the new design of the iPod Touch, and it's nice to see them continued.

For all the people looking at the Iphone 5, take a look at this video first...

For me, I'd probably need to have my iPhone 4 just about dead, honestly. Even at $200 for the cheapest iPhone 5, I can't justify just tossing aside a perfectly good phone that still works and functions properly (my iPhone 4) just because a new model is out.

I'd love to have things like Siri and the fancy updated cameras, etc... but again, I'm just not someone who can spend money so easily. If my 4 fell in a toilet or something, that'd be a different story. But for now, my current phone works just fine, is less than two years old, and is, $200.00 less of an expense to continue using.

laughing so hard at the moment...

here's the official Apple comment about NFC.

It’s not clear that NFC is the solution to any current problem, Schiller said. “Passbook does the kinds of things customers need today.

Are you kidding me? Having your phone do multiple operations by just tapping an RFID tag isn't just convenient, but it SOLVES THE PROBLEM of trying to set your phone's various settings based on your environment (just one example)...

Schiller noted that the wireless charging systems still have to be plugged into the wall, so it’s not clear how much convenience they add. The widely-adopted USB cord, meanwhile, can charge in wall outlets, computers and even on airplanes, he said. “Having to create another device you have to plug into the wall is actually, for most situations, more complicated,” Schiller said.

If Apple had been "inventive" and "revolutionary" they would have thrown this into the phone to differentiate themselves from the Android or HTC phones. But, they didn't... Why? Come on, it's simple... money...

If you wirelessly charge your phone, you won't need what? Oh yeah you won't need that 8pin plug that they're hyping about. Therefore if there's no adoption for the new plug (with wireless charging) you won't spend any $ on new cables and adapters to utilize the new plug...

Don't try and fob people off with the 'oh, its not really the answer to the problem', when it's simple, they added more accessories and converters to make more money, not to be innovative or 'fresh'... pathetic spin Apple, easily see through

I got an iphone 4s earlier this year, too. Yeah, not looking to upgrade right now. Hubby took over my 3G when I upgraded. Now he's saying that maybe he'll upgrade to 4 or 4s, since the 4's will be $0 and the 4s' $99 at the low end. I was shocked! This is the same man who complains about having a cell at all!

Think I'll be sticking with my iPhone 4. Doesn't seem worth the upgrade imo.

When you say this, what WOULD make you upgrade? What would needed to be included for you to buy this one. Just wondering when people say this.

I have an iPhone 4 and it works just fine. I see no need upgrading until my 4 dies which hopefully won't be for a long time. Even then I'll look at Androids before I decide on another phone.
My wife used to have a Droid and that Amazon marketplace looked like a nightmare to deal with compared to the slick iTunes. I don't purchase much from the iTunes store, but I've loaded all my music in and listen to a lot of podcasts.

So I tried to copy my apps from iTunes over to my iPod touch. No bueno.

After some Google-fu, it appears that the easiest way to do this would be if I had ios5 intalled on my iPod touch, but I can't do that because my iPod touch is a 2nd gen model, which won't support ios5.

Too, I can't seem to get the apps from iTunes. When I plug in the iPod touch, it only reads the apps on the iPod touch. When I plug in my iPhone, i can see all the apps, but none of them are accessible.

^ Do this: After you connect your iPod to iTunes, select the 'pod under Devices. Then go to Apps on the top of the screen. What apps does it say your iPod has?

There will be a 'Sync Apps' checkbox at the top of the screen. Is it selected? Also, is the 'Automatically sync new apps' checkbox also checked?

I plut my iPod Touch in to my laptop. In iTunes, and going to Apps on the top of the screen only shows the apps currently on the iPod Touch: iBooks, Contacts, Weather, Maps, iTunes, Photos, Settings, App Store, and submenus for Games and Utilities.

The "Sync Apps" button is checked off, yes, but again, all I get are the apps that are on this iPod.

When I plug in the iPhone (where I use most of my apps anyway), they show up in the window of Apps, but are not "selectable."

Is it possible (now that I think about it) that I may have deleted all my apps from iTunes when I reset my iPod Touch? Thereby leaving them only existing on my iPhone 4?

I'm up at 3am and I pre-ordered the iPhone 5. Couldn't get into the Apple Store, it was still updating. So I went through Verizon and had no problem at all. Setup the new account, pre-ordered a white iPhone 5 in 64gb for the wife and a black iPhone 5 in 64gb for myself.

Can you get me one while you're in there?

:p

What apps does iTunes have within itself? Under Preferences, one of the things that you can have it show (under Library on the left side of the screen) is Apps. Which ones are listed there?

10 Things I can do on my Galaxy Note that iPhone 5 still can't do...

1. Pay groceries with the tap of my phone (NFC)
2. Unlock my phone by looking at it (Face Unlock)
3. Expand my memory to 96gb (32gb standard phone memory, 64gb microSD)
4. Customize my home screen to make it "mine" (Widgets)
5. View widescreen videos without a letterbox (Adobe Flash)
6. Gives me directions, before I ask. (Google Now)
7. Use my phone as portable memory (Usb Drive)
7a. Conveniently open, edit, and save MS Office files.
8. Take a picture, crop my face out, and paste it on michael jordan's as he dunks (Photo Editor)
9. Find out detailed cpu, data, and battery usage by App.
10. Switch between recent apps from ANY screen with a push of a button (Recent Apps Softkey)

I've also been taking panoramic shots, taking photos instantly, video chatting, and taking advantage of blazingly fast 4G for many months now... Wonder how long it will take for Apple to take Samsung to court for these other things they most obviously invented...
