The Interpretation of Dreams Thread™!

^You know what strikes me as most interesting is how dreams that don't seem so very frightening to some one else can be so disturbing to the dreamer...how sometimes the idea of an empty car being smashed can be more disturbing to an individual than a dream about a murderous pursuit. It has been that way for me; dreams that seem that they should be incredibly disturbing don't bother me so much, whilst dreams that seem almost mundane for some reason haunt me.

funny this has been brought uo now as last night i had a right strange dream.
I was standing in a turbo lift on the enterprise nx-01 when the doors opened there was a corridor, I wondered where it went so followed it along each wall were several doors and as i got to them i could hear voices some nice some not. anyways everytime i went to go into the 1st room the door would open and all i could see was sherlock holmes sitting in a chair smoking his pipe he looked at me then told me to sod off. then the door closed. this happened to me at every door but with differant people from both historical and non historical worlds. ahead i saw a door on it's own it was wooden so i entered the room and saw nothing but darkness though something was in the room i couldnt see what it was.

^ You know you are a true Star Trek fan when you dream about the Enterprise and wake up remembering which model it was. Priceless!

That said, perhaps the fact that you are aboard the Enterprise suggests that your subconscious is taking refuge in a fictional universe to help you recover mentally from some real life strain; the fact that you are unable to find warmth or welcome would suggest that you are searching for some sort of result in real life that you have not yet achieved.

Holmes and his pipe could suggest that you have been watching certain Data-centric TNG episodes recently, or it could indicate that you are confused by some mysterious element(s) in your life which - in spite of multiple attempts to figure out, remain unsettled, or maybe both.

A couple days ago, I dreamed that I sluggishly drug myself out of bed and started ironing my clothes. The morning sun was shining, and a woman who I used to work with and had a particular liking for at the time was in the room. I asked her if she wanted to go out for breakfast; she asked where, and I suggested Shari's. She started saying something about their desserts, and at that point I woke up with the vision of scrambled eggs fresh in my mind, and wishing that the first time I had gotten out of bed was actually the real one. In all coolness, however, the feeling of contentment which I experienced in my dream lingered throughout the day.

The moral of the dream is that my subconscious still has a crush on a former co-worker. The bit about Sharis is likely linked to happy hours I spent at the restaurant as a teenager with a family friend, where we would spend lazy sunday afternoons planning our then distant future adult lives. The irony is, however, I don't particularly like the food at Shari's, and I generally avoid eating eggs.

In any case, as I see it, dreams serve two purposes; #1, essentially defragmentation, like a hard drive. Data is moved around to clear up space, and the previous day's experiences are all squashed and archived.

The other - #2 - purpose is along the lines of stress relief; essentially a pattern of mental simulations designed to allow the release of emotions which are generally suppressed during waking periods.

Thus, a dream is usually 50% a mixed up review of the past, and 50% a mixed up vision of personal desires.

I'm not sure what the 50% personal desires have been in recent dreams...

The other night I was dreaming that Raven_Shayde found a DRADIS contact. After an argument we found out it was grit. It played out almost the same as Marooned from Red Dwarf (which matches the 50% past review). Other than that I assume I've just watched too much BSG in quick succession.

I've also been dreaming of clearing out old cupboards and finding models and seem to still be having recurring dreams of finding 'add ons' to imaginary houses. Such as finding a full resteraunt kitchen behind a hidden door, rooms and even whole secondary living area's/mini-houses in doors that have never been opened.

Can't figure that out.

I remember those dreams I had now. They all took place around about my last birthday.

The first one I recall took place on Tuesday morning.

I was walking down a side street in the place where I was at University, heading back to my student flat, when I had the feeling that I was being followed by a very dangerous stranger. The stranger, a big burly white man in an overcoat, was definitely behind me as I walked home. I got to my flat, which for some reason was only accessible via the fire escape stairway, but then walked just past my house in order to try and shake off the man.

I hid behind another block, waiting for the man to turn and leave, then I followed back to the block with my flat, still watching him leave, as he then turned back onto the main road and away. Still anxious, I followed the side street parallel to the main street, to see if he really was leaving. Looking at him dow the alleyway, he did indeed walk, then doubled-back, snuck his head around the corner and stared at me before finally leaving for good.

During this time, a neighbour living in the block next to mine, in a rather fancy house, was watching everything, then came out of her house and asked me if I was all right. I said I was fine and that I thought I was being followed, but it was all right. I did notice that this neighbour was a young woman in her early twenties, with shortish blonde hair and the cutest face I had ever seen. The dream then ended at that point.

The second vivid one occurred the following day, on Wednesday morning.

I was in my own home, where I live right now, waiting for visitors. The house was exactly as I had left it, in a mess. The doorbell rang, and two friendly visitors came in, people I had been expecting in fact. They were both young men, slightly younger than me, yet one of them was in my mind representative of one of the posters at the TrekBBS (a male poster, well known, I'm not saying whom :p). I welcomed both in, and offered them tea etc. One of thenm then went upstairs to use my toilet. Just then I heard more noise outside, and this time it turned out to be some of the younger kids from the neighbouring houses where I live, playing, although a few did knock on my door and came into the house again. I recognised them (not sure from where) but knew that I hadn't seen them in years. The youngest one, a girl tall for her age with a fringe haircut, then began asking me seemingly innocent questions which I felt were rather personal and cutting for me. That's when the dream ended.

The next two occurred in the same night, that Friday as it happened.

I was at my parents' home, resting in my room. The situation was that my mother and father were acting very unreasonably, giving me various demands and asking too much of my services. All I wanted was to rest with my bottle of water in my room. Eventually, after a heated discussion with my mum I snapped, told them that I wouldn't take any more of their hassle, and would leave. I then stormed to my room and prepared to pack my things. It was then a few minutes later that my big sister came up and informed me that she had spoken to my parents and resolved the issue, knowing that I was not to blame for the problem that had occurred. My parents then came up to my room, apologised for their behaviour, and we all reconciled, with my mother then helping me to pack for my journey back to my own home in England with a big bottle of juice (although she and my dad argued over whether I needed such a big bottle filled only half-way with juice). The dream ended.

I recall actually sitting bolt upright as soon as that dream ended. The bedside clock indicated it was 3:20 am.

As for the second dream that night - it was quite a big dream.

I was in a tall building in the middle of a small city, possibly representing work. Inside, dark forces were at hand. It was like a game of DOOM with some RPG and some fantasy elements too. I was in one level fairly high up in the building, with some demons (some of them with a huge domed spiked shield on their back) taking over the place, and I knew I had to defeat them, using a powerful thunderbolt spell I had learned. With the main demons defeated, I then had to travese a hostile room with deadly pits and traps before finally encountering the small dungeon master who had taken over the place.

Before I could defeat him, I was flung back to the ground floor, again fighting the forces of evil, when I noticed outside, in the bright daytime (it was cloudy though) dozens of people of my age being herded around, then their skin turning a coal-black, dusky colour before then running around crazy and eating everyone else. As it turned out, a full-blown "real" zombie plague had begun outside, threatening to come in and attack us. I was joined by various other adventurers, of different sizes shapes and ethnicities (of note there was a fat man, and two girls - one Asian, the other white - all about my age). I ran around the lobby of the building, looking outside at the glass doors at the zombies running around and hunting for me, while still trying to fend off the immediate problem of the DOOM "game" monsters in the building. Eventually, some zombies made it to a stairwell, and attacked the fat man, turning him into a zombie, while the two girls made their escape in a SUV. I was left alone, watching as the zombies finally spotted me through a patio window, then burst in and closed in for the kill.

Immediately, the scene flashed back to when I was at the friends' house, several hours previously, as the zombie invasion was beginning. As it turned out, the cause of the plague was to do with large insects flying about. While sitting with the friends in the house's conservatory, one young boy in the household, a bright lad with blondish hair and glasses, captured one as it bit a passer-by and transformed him. I then left quickly, carrying a potted plant belonging to another young boy, and delivering it to the boy's mother who was just older than me with short dark hair. Their front door was a swing door with lots of flowers around the entrance. I couldn't get past the front door so I threw the plant into the hallway, jumped over the swing partition, then gathered up the plant again (putting it back inside the pot) and handing it to the boy's mother, who seemed genuinely pleased to see me and the plant, and didn't notice the mess made in the hallway. The dream ended at that point.

I had a dream. My first for two months. And it was just like dreams used to be. I've been relishing it all morning as I recall little details.

The dream began with me trying to fix a wobbly table leg, which somehow evolved into trying to remove a brick from the wall next to it by chipping away at the cement. A motorised cutting tool then came to hand, which caused a lot of cosmetic damage to my wall and to my table leg :( Looking back, that actually sounds ridiculous, but that was how I dreamt it. This actually relays my feelings about power tools, which in my hands seem to cause more damage than fixing.

Anyway, then I took my cutting tool and climbed onto my roof, which had become a flat roof, and my house was now beside the sea. Sitting on my roof, the beach was a stone's throw away. The weather was dry, moderately sunny and quite warm.

My dog was also with me on the roof, and the next thing I knew he had jumped off to go swimming in the sea. The tide was incoming, and everytime he swam out, a wave threw him back onto the sands. In fact, the sea threw him back with such force that he'd roll about 20 times like a big sausage until he stopped.

After a short time, he starting laying on his back and wriggling in the wet sand, and I noticed his fur turning a red colour. It was something in the water that was staining him. Some children were also playing on the beach, and they too were being stained this red colour.

One of the children was a young relative of mine and I decided to take him further up the beach where I knew the sea was cleaner.

As we were walking, the environment merged with my old dream world; the one I frequently visited when I dreamed on a nightly basis.

We ended up at the old swimming baths. Again, I haven't dreamed of this place since I was about 14 years old.

A little background: In the past, this building was where I was taken swimming with school every thursday (only in dreams; it doesn't exist in reality). Every thursday, the pool was briefly visited by this same trio, who had a band. The looked a little like Madness/Beastie Boys with their sunglasses and way they spoke. They were called the 'M---- Men' or something alliterative like that. For two minutes at some poin each thursday they would make an entrance to the baths, shout some cool sounding dialogue, and then leave. It always seemed wonderful if they made their entrance during our classes swimming session, because we never knew what time they'd turn up for sure.

Anyway, this time I wasn't in the pool as I arrived at the side entrance which they normally used to make their entrance. And I was pleasant surprised to see them stood there waiting to do their thing, so we chatted for a short time. They explained how it's getting too much for them now, and they'd cut down their visits to once every ten days now. But it was nice for me to see them again after all these years. :)

Then I walked around to the other side entrance, and through to the abandoned part of the swimming baths complex, and to the old stairwell. This descended 26 levels below ground level. I decided to go down to the 25th depth. I'm not sure why that one appealed to me, maybe because I'd never been there before? Nor was I expecting to find anyone down there, but I met two other girls there.

We weren't supposed to be there though, and one of the caretakers came down shouting at us, and we had to leave. I'm just pleased I woke up before having to climb up 25 flights of stairs :D

I had another dream.

This one was considerably shorter though. I was in a park watching fireworks (It's that time of year in England). But something was not quite right.

First of all, the fireworks were generating too many particles, as though the particles themselves were exploding into particles.

Secondly, the perspective of the scene was all wrong. For how far away the fireworks appeared to be being detonated, they were appearing too quickly and too low in the sky above me, with bits raining down into the crowd.

I thought they must have been programmed wrong; as apparently these were simulated fireworks. Then I realised the programming error was all my fault, and I had let everybody down :( Everybody went home, and I was left stood in the rain all alone. Until some guy came and comforted me, and we starting jumping in the puddles and making splashes.

An insightful dream.

Re: The Interpretation of Dreams Thread!

I've been meaning to post here again as I also had some interesting dreams overnight, this time not provoked by some outside stimulus such as food.

One dream was very short and involved me going supermarket shopping in my car. Morrison's, as it turned out. The shops were on a busy city road, so I pulled into the parking area, which was a multi-storey maze of tight corners and sweeping viaducts. The tickets only dispensed if I had a trolley with me. Eventually I did my shopping and left, but as I was travelling down that road again, I realised I'd forgotten to buy something important, so I turned around and re-entered the supermarket complex, only to realise that I was in a different branch of that supermarket altogether - one just down the road from the other.

The other dream I remember involved the TrekBBS. Here, everyone was at a meetup in a pub. I recognised names there but faces were not familiar. I did note that two women there looked identical, though. In the dream, I recalled spending the most time with people I identified as "Holdfast" and "DAK", although I did also look for others whom might also recognise me but didn't. "DAK" cracked a joke, the details of which are now sketchy but involved a common phrase which, if spoken in a strange accent, described an innuendo. "Holdfast" and I both said that we didn't get the joke, but seconds later I was able to take everything "DAK" said and put it in writing, just as if quoting someone online, and seeing the joke in writing, I finally got it and laughed.

I keep having this dream that I am making love to Allison Mack...but she doesn't appeal to me whatsoever in my waking life.

I dunno???

Re: The Interpretation of Dreams Thread™!

Now the latest dream was interesting. I was in a hostel way up in the mountains, with a group of like-minded young people, where everyone was given tasks to do, and activities to participate in during the afternoons. I recall one activity was hiking up in the mountains, and I recognised many of the fellow participants as members of the TrekBBS. In particular I bumped into Emher and thestrangequark (based on their real-life appearance photos here) hiking together, hand in hand. :)

While I was looking at the other young people, and looking at the bland featureless hostel, I wondered to myself, "Wouldn't it be fun if all of a sudden a zombie apocalypse broke out right here?" This didn't materialise, however, although in my mind I still believed it did. Eventually evening and night fell, and the last thing I recall in the dream was wandering around the hostel at night, lights out, entering the kitchen and rummaging around the cupboards and shelves. I bumped into several of the other occupants (including the aforementioned people), who were in their nightwear, wondering why I was up all night, and looking puzzled. At this moment I was convinced there was a zombie apocalypse going on, but I couldn't really prove it. That's when this dream then ended.

(I suppose this could be my first attempt at lucid dreaming, except that it utterly failed to get off the ground. :guffaw:)

I am honored to have featured in one of your dreams, Zion!

I've been having unpleasant dreams a lot lately -- almost every night. They're not vague and there's no need for interpretation. I've been dreaming about diabetes complications. I keep dreaming that I have to have my feet or legs amputated. It's really awful.

I have had this dream probably three times lately, and I'm getting a little curious. The phrase, "Twin Forks," keeps coming up. I think it's a place, but I've never heard of it that I know of.

I had been playing Dragon Age endlessly the last couple of days and I had a dream where my wife was giving birth and the baby was born. The baby then turned red, grew wings, and became a dragon. Smashed throught he top of the operating Room and flew away.

It turned out, we had a baby girl. I figure the dream came true!

I eats the lizard king in dream, for breakfast .,

ever eat your animal guide in the dreamland world ., they just don't like that at all...

anyway the dream that haunted me for umpteen days is thus

caught in a drain pipe with like three or four other people it is like that shawshank redemption drainpipe but with a little extra room and it is a ride-ish in that we get off the horror house ride there... I do not know who I am travelling with but we "wait" in this drainpipe forever then the aliens come to get us out and who are the aliens but actually devils Satan you know evil they had just melted the world and we needed to leave earth cause the whole thing just was like putty or gweu or the like., so the devil informs us that he is the only one to survive the hell fires of nuclear war and we just lucked out by being in space sorta. you know the devil is bad news in a dreams really... LOL so why am I dreaming of the devil and such we immediately fold space and move to the opposite side of the universe were they never heard of god// God or the devil and the likes LOL some realm that is like half dead when I could not keep earth from melting no matter how many times I .,,, over produced the movie or took the scene again over and over I just joined my cohorts in the drainpipe and went to the other realm with out said good and evil scenarios going on woot woot...

Sounds like it could be David Lynch's favorite diner. :D
I hear the coffee there is damn fine. :bolian:

I am honored to have featured in one of your dreams, Zion!
Even if it's not quite in the way most people would expect. :D

Still, you wouldn't be the first person in the TrekBBS who has appeared in my dreams. (That honour goes to Holdfast. :wtf:)
