The Interpretation of Dreams Thread™!

I realised a long time ago that the separate elements of my dreams are made up of elements from my past experiences, usually recent, manifesting itself into a generalised subconscious feeling.

Take my last dream as described above, for example. The driving is something I do a lot, and the mountainous scenery could represent the M62, a picturesque cut across mountainous territory connecting the M1 to Manchester.
The sixth-sense presence of birds in my dream could represent part of my recent time in Cleethorpes with the lakeside and all those ducks (no baby ones, though) - it was overcast back then, too, and there was rain later.
The interior of the mansion and the presence of my sisters and absence of parents in the immediate vicinity could represent my staying with my sisters a few months ago in their house in Aberdeen. (Hence why it wasn't that exciting...)

Most of my dreams are anxiety dreams which is my brain processing stuff going on in my life a the time...if I'm anxious about work (teacher!) I dream about a bad classroom situation. If I'm anxious about money, I dream something about poverty isssus and If I have general health anxiety, I dream any number of negative health issues (I've had the teeth falling out dream often too)

I'm just an anxious person  (yes GAD diagnosed)

I do, however, have some just weird but fun dreams, like my mind is making a movie. Latest one I remember was that I was having an affair with Brad Pitt...and I don't even like Brad Pitt!

^ I had that too! With Brad Pitt ~ I don't like him either! That man has some shithot sub-conscious publicity team :shifty:

My recurring dreams are about climbing 'something' ~ usually castle ruins, or something un-finished (last one was a swimming pool) involving tricky footwork and potential long falls. I'm not scared in the dreams and confident that I can get to the top although I can't see it. I just find it an inconvenience ~ especially when *others* are with me and I am responsible for them.
Yeah, no need to analyse that one

I love reading everyone's bizarre nighttime visions. I recently dreamed that my mother had multiples, which turned out to be potatoes. I was supposed to look after them, and I put them in diapers. Then I fried them in a pan. It's okay, though, in the dream that was how one looks after her little baby brother-potatoes and sister-potatoes.

:guffaw: Wonderful!! I once dreamt I roasted my cat in the oven, I really had to cram him in

I had a dream :) Here goes...

Scene I
Dream opens with brilliant white. The sun is shining, and I can see sparkling pristine snow covering the ground as far as I can see.

I am standing beside a tree. Around me, the land is slightly hilly but all gentle slopes. All clean and sparkly white with the snow. Many trees are dotted around here and there. Maybe 50 metres between them, but randomly scattered. The trees are not particularly snow covered, and their branches are full of healthy dark green leaves which droop down to head height. The air is cool but pleasant, feeling like a welcome breeze on a summer day, or like opening a freezer door and feeling the cold air stroking your warm skin.

Then I hear an engine, like a speed boat. It gets louder. Then I see a snow buggy travelling right across my field of view. There is a ginger wooly haired man riding the snow buggy, and somehow I know he is an Irishman. :) He is being hunted. As he slaloms across the landscape there are periscopes rising up through the snow with crossbows mounted upon them. They turn and take aim at the man, and he keeps avoiding the bolts as they fire. He is running for his life, and it is anxious to watch. Luckily he manages to escape. He heads off into the distance towards what I know to be a town, and I teleport there ahead of him.

Scene II
I materialise in an open plan office, on what I feel is something like the 5th floor of the building. It has huge windows along one wall. The ceiling is very high but the room isn't particuarly light, not as light one might expect from such windows.

The glass is corrigated, like the iron sheets on barn roofs. But then I realise it isn't a proper window. It is a magic window. Through it I can see wherever I want to see, and at the moment I can see the Irishman making his approach to the town.

Then an unexpected voice from behind me, which makes me turn around, and I notice the window turns translucent and loses it's clairvoyancy.

A woman is sat behind a desk. I didn't notice her before. She has an emo-ish attire, and she is a prophet. She knows the future. From a doorway behind her, a man walks into the office. His presence is somehow unsettling, and he never speaks or makes eye contact with me.

There is a sense of pride and quiet dignity between the pair, but they are evil, and in a way that is almost overlooked. She seems to have eyes everywhere. She sees all and knows the future. I feel as though I am at the mercy of her, although I do not feel afraid of her at this time.

Apparently, she was the one hunting the Irishman. She is the one who has control of the periscopes, with help of her magic window.

We look at each other for a few seconds, and then she speaks to me in a disapproving tone, "My attention will be on you tomorrow."

I ask "why?"

She replies, "You will bring it upon yourself. Just be careful what lipstick you choose, because if you are chewing your way through sack cloth it might become smudged."

And as random as that sounded, I did now fetl afraid of her and desperate to escape.

Scene III
I run outside and into the bustle of the town, not quite sure what I'm supposed to do or not do to win favor with this evil pair. I feel like I am second guessing myself on things I haven't even done.

As I wander around the town I am drawn to "house number 9", for some reason. As I loiter around infront of it, I am greeted by the landlord. He comes across as a pillar of the community, and a friendly face who people feel comfortable talking to about things. I try to tell him that I am frightened and to ask for his advise, but he is distracted by his own business tending to the hinges on the gate, and the conversation doesn't really get going. Then he went on some other urgent errand and we parted.

Then it dawned upon me that I have in fact sealed my fate by talking to him, for I have now communed with the good person and turned my back on the evil pair.

With that realization, I woke up.

dreamed about time passage by trying to convince someone that there is time to talk about things that are pointless and will never happen. before that I dreamed how I was to die or the act that would kill me .. drinking Ink .. for some reason that did not sit well with me I turned all sorts of colors and then died.

Another dream last night, albeit a short one.

I was walking along the aisles of a large passenger aircraft - given there were two sets of aisles I assumed it was a Boeing 747 with the lights down low. I could hear music and it turned out to be Stephanie from LazyTown doing her usual "Bing Bang" signature tune dance, and I felt compelled to join in with dancing with the little pink-haired girl with whom many of you are very familiar. As soon as the music and dance routine ended, we embraced and I carried her on my right shoulder, only to be ushered towards a side room on the aeroplane by important-looking people, and all the while I could hear a phone ringing, coming from within Stephanie's tummy. Pressing my ear against her side I could hear a telephone conversation taking place, but not involving myself. Putting her down a moment I then carried her on my left shoulder, as we were ushered into a waiting room. There, the two of us were ushered towards a weighing scale, and our combined weight recorded. I noted that my weight was recorded as 150 pounds - considerably lighter than how I usually am, and as the dream ended, I found myself questioning how light I had suddenly become, and why this was so.

The scary thing is that this was the very first time I had ever dreamed about Stephanie from LazyTown. :wtf:

^^ Just you wait. I'll see what tonight brings. ;)

I wonder if it is possible to will yourself back into a dream? I'd like to see what happened to me and that mysterious woman in the white mansion again...

OK. Two dreams last night, both very separate and discrete.

The first one was weird. It featured elements that I think were key to the recent Star Trek film, so anyone not wanting to know what happens in the film, LOOK AWAY NOW.

I dreamed that I was actually standing on an alien world very near to Earth, complete with human civilisation structures (cities, towns, governments etc.) on it and a sizeable human population, and that our world was about to end by having Earth on a collision course with our world.

[Still reading and not seen the film? Go see the film. Then this will make sense. But if you are ready, click the next spoiler text. This describes the first part of the dream. The second part has nothing to do with the film, I promise. - Zion Ravescene]
I was watching news broadcasts of this and noted that one of the nearby planets was about to be destroyed through a black hole device that would cause it to implode, knocking Earth out of its orbit and bringing it on a collision course with our world.
I remember getting ready for the end, and watched as Earth came crashing down towards our planet, the immense globe coming down just north of where I was. All of a sudden, though, as the Earth collided, it didn't cause the massive widespread death and destruction, but instead just sat on top of our world, as if it had just landed on our world (our world was probably much bigger than Earth to accommodate this). During the dream I could always see the Earth in my position, towards the North, sitting on top of my world. I could recall the most prominent features of the Earth I could see were the Indonesian archipelago, Australia, and the Far East, presented to me as if the Earth was the right way up on a globe, with Antarctica crushed underneath.

However, the electrics on our world had all gone out, with no general power, looting going on elsewhere, and the cities and villages deserted. The location I was in was a small town type, abandoned, with alleyways and slums, and emergency street lighting on as it was dark. During this time I could hear a Narrator (with Stephen Fry's voice, no less) describing the events from the perspective of Arthur Dent (the protagonist of the Hitchhikers Guide stories) who had somehow also made it to this world too. The Narrator described how he was surrounded by very powerful but ultimately stupid killer robotic security guards, which were converging on my position right now.

I fled to an abandoned building which happened to contain an ad hoc library, and spnt the rest of the dream trying to refurbish the library as best as possible, restacking and setting up the shelves, restarting the computers, and reinforcing the front door in order to make sure the robots didn't enter. I remember someone else was with me helping out, possibly a woman, possibly one of the librarians there too (it was no-one I could recognise from real life and she had no real distinguishing physical features). I then fled when I heard the aforementioned Narrator describing that Arthur Dent was in troble, so I left the library and ran down an alleyway back to my original position at a T-junction, where the dozen or so killer robots were coming towards me from the right side of the junction, in a two-by-two formation.

I then decided to evade the robots by turning left down another street, and was amazed to find the robots not come after me, but instead turn left down the alleyway towards the direction of the library. I somehow knew that the inhabitant of the library was going to be safe, but I kept on thinking about whether Arthur was safe. I thus walked down the right-hand exit of the T-junction towards Arthur's supposed position, amazed to think that such powerful military robots could be so stupid, only to find that four robots remained from the group and, amazingly, were slowly trundling back to their garrison, not joining their colleagues in looking for me. I then noticed that the robots were of two types: a high-tech android type with small weapons, and a type which looked like it was riding a unicycle, and armed with powerful arm-mounted weapons. I was amazed that these robots still could not tell I was right behind them.

That's when the dream ended.

--------------

The second one had very little active participation from me at all, but I remember more about it. I was watching an awards ceremony with various famous major and minor celebrities of stage, TV and film presenting awards and the occasional "entertainment" interlude. I initially thought I was watching it on TV as the viewing angles from my perspective seemed that way, but I had realised I was watching as part of an audience. I was situated in the stalls behind the main stage, almost behind a large stand, back and to the left, yet I could see everything including the main stalls in front of the stage. I also recall my parents were with me watching the show, but for some reason my mother was next to me on the right, and my father was with other friends in the main stall.

The awards themselves were small rectangular transparent plaques with a conecting glass neck onto a short black base, and would be carried on by a pair of celebrities to the sound of modern pop music (much as is the case with the BAFTA awards) who would announce the nominations before announcing the winner. I remember there were several attempts at audience participation there too, some of them cheesy, with occasional genuine moments of emotion.

The last presentation I remember seeing was memorable. The presentation party consisted of two stars of some quirky current dramedy which seemed popular in the dream world (all I know was one of them was Angus Deayton I think) presenting some award. They were about to proceed to showing a clip of one of the nominees, stating that the clip was about bees. The presentation duo then broke into a spontaneous rendition of "Morning Has Broken" and parts of the audience also started to join in, with some of them even standing up and singing, while other members of the audience could only cringe with embarassment, myself included. My mother then noticed that one of the audience members standing up and singing, out of tune, was my father. I laughed at that moment. Only one verse was sung by everyone, with a pregnant pause as if someone was waiting to start another verse.

Eventually the audience settled down and the clip of one of the nominees was showed, an animation, and it looked remarkably like an episode of Ben 10 for some reason. Indeed the clip was about bees, as it had the protagoists waling down a series of high-tech corridors, with certain points containing hatcheries where giant bees were about to hatch. The bees looked like they had large gnashing and wailing mouths with sharp teeth pressing against the hatching windows. It felt as if the bees were about to hatch and devour the heroes on screen.

I didn't see what happened next as the dream had ended by then.

I had a satisfying dream last night, and I feel more sprightly today for it. I'm still not dreaming as much as I used to, or would like to, but at least it's something.

This dream was made from random elements, all mixed up and not making a lot of sense. It involved running back and to along my parent's garden, then I lost my clothes, then I was putting some tools into a cardboard box, but I was constantly concerned that someone might see my from the street because I didn't have any clothes on. Then discovering my auntie and uncle had travelled from overseas and were riding on push bikes with a load of junior school children, claiming they were "networking with the church". Somehow the tools ending up in my bed, which had found it's way to my parent's house. I discovered my father had put the tools there to hide them from my uncle. I also discovered a bow and arrow in my bed. Then I found my clothes, and my mum was talking about how much she liked my new bed linen...

I love dreaming :D

I have had nightmares recently. Here are two of them, incidentally the last two dreams of any sort which I remember well.

This first one was from about 2 weeks ago, but is one I still remember vividly. It was a "War of the Worlds" scenario incorporating elements from both film versions and the book.

In this nightmare I remember driving in the countryside with two colleagues (I can't remember if they were family or not) heading towards the "farm" of a girl I love (it was clearly signposted, let's just say) during the daytime - I remember the farm was alongisde two other similar-looking farms on a country road in a big valley. I ended up geting lost and winding up in a luxury penthouse apartment in a big unnamed city during the night, and as it happened it was the night that alien forces (presumably from Mars) were invading the planet, with one cell emerging in the city. I could hear and see outside that the aliens' weapons were a sort of instantaneous heat-flash ray which caused an electical-type instantaneous death, but whose presence could be seen from afar and indeed heard.

I was alone in the darkened apartment, frantically searching the place for something important, but all the time trying not to make a sound in case the aliens heard me. I remember my searching methods were methodical and involved searching the left-hand wall and working my way around the whole apartment, sometimes revisitng the same places several times. During this time I was aware of the pandemonium outside, catching glimpses of the city's gothic architecture, and even seeing a highway in the near background with several cars and trucks going about their business in the early morning despite there being a hideous alien invasion going on.

Eventually I could hear one of the aliens, in a silver-white robotic suit and tentacles, and a single small eye-like focus, entering my apartment. I reasoned that if they could not see or hear me then they could not get me, so I hid and kept silent. Outside I could still see and hear the activity of heat-rays killing several more civilians. My attempts to hide took me to the patio doors leading to the roof garden, where I could see the alien coming towards me on the other side of the patio wall. It was at this point that I had thought that my time was about to come to an end, and that I was going to die very soon, but that I would be ready for this moment. Unfortunately, at that moment, the alien sensed my presece and made a move to get me. My last memory of the dream was briefly loking at the alien directly in its "eye" and thinking about not wanting to die, then the dream suddenly ended with no memory of having any sort of weapon pointed at me and fired.

The second nightmare happened this morning. It features elements which I've attributed to the recent 5th season of LOST (I'll put the relevant information in spoiler form at first).

One of the main plot developments of season 5 involves the so-called "Shadow Group" - a team of mysterious people who seem to be allied to Jacob and who address relevant people with the pass-phrase "What lies in the shadow of the statue?" Two major members were people called Ilana and Bram, and they seem to know Richard Alpert (known to them as "Ricardus"), a mysterious island man who never ages, and who responds appropriately to their pass-phrase. They claim to be the "good guys" (mind you, everyone on the show claims to be the good guys) but their motives and background are still not completely understood, no doubt something that might be developed further in season 6.

In order to avoid further spoilers in the dream description, I'll refer to Richard as The Figurehead, and to Bram as The Enforcer (Ilana doesn't appear in the dream, sadly).

I was watching LOST (I think) on the TV, and I noted that towards the end of one of the episodes, someone had created a paper model of a distinctive-looking cathedral - it was red, with a wide hall and a low sloping roof. I immediately recognised it as an Anglican church somewhere in Liverpool [in hindsight it definitely was not that, but it seemed to make sense in the dream] and one of the characters recognised it shortly afterwards too.

The action then transferred to that same church, where a little girl was singing a beautiful hymn, and the main protagonists and antagonists were also present, exchanging threats. I was there too, watching, and also taking in the surrounding area with the typical Liverpool landmarks. One of the characters present was The Enforcer, a man who followed the instructions of The Figurehead, who was recruiting new members to their side. Part of their discussion involved the little choir girl, who appeared threatened by one of the other characters.

They talked about having new people join their cause, and then The Enforcer invited me to a recruitment session in the morning, just to see how things would be. Although it was clear they were very much a cult, they were nevertheless very friendly, and operated an interesting philosophy of winning at all costs (the phrase "win, and win well!" was repeated throughout) even to the extent of compromising our own work and day patterns.

So I went to work the following morning, only to find that I was being directed to a dining hall where this cult was recruiting. The Figurehead was there, all smiles and friendly demeanour (just like in the TV show) and handing out application forms and questionnaires. I noted I had to ask firmly in order to get hold of all the relevant paperwork, as all my other fellow applicants were getting kinder and preferential treatment during this initial phase. However, despite all this, I still felt I was having second thoughts about going through all of this.

Looking at some of the questions, it confirmed my concerns that the cult wished to take over all aspects of our lives, gradually then totally, starting with forcing us to take out one day of our working week in order to seek "victory". Yet thios was offset by several other perks of joining, including certain privileges such as shortcuts to work, financial and happiness benefits, and something called "medical streamlining" which wasn't made clear, although I had heard rumours of people getting their appendices taken out because they were "useless".

Although I don't recall completing the paperwork, I then recall being a passenger on a journey to another place of work, going via all the usual roads and roundabouts, except that now that I had passed this first phase of recruitment, I could now see brand new routes to work, highlighted on the road signs as bright yellow arrows leading off into different directions (some of which seemed to have no road at all). I put my faith into my driver, which for some reason was a wheeled desk chair pushing me towards my ultimate destination. Part of my journey did indeed involve taking one of the yellow routes off the road, but instead I ended up on a new tunnelled road to the new headquarters, then having my transport take me up two flights of stairs (very bumpily, even though I had doubts that it would indeed take me up the stairs at all).

I ended up in a waiting area, where The Enforcer then reappeared, and told me that I was about to undergo this medical streamlining as the next phase of recruitment, which involved removing all non-essential parts of the body, including the appendix, but starting with my "inguinal ligaments" [the inguinial areas, in the groins, are common locations for hernias]. Before I could protest, I could feel an uncomfortable feeling in my right inguinal area, fearing that I might have a hernia or retracted testicle, and part of me wished for the people to go ahead in order to treat my discomfort. I was very uncertain of their methods of doing this, as |The Enforcer then stripped himself of his red robes, showed me his old groinal scars, then proceeded to place electrodes on his body and calmly and nonchalantly applied a scalpel to his own body, opening up his groin and showing the surgical work that was done to him.

Under a lot of protesting, with no anaesthesia, and with tears streaming down my face, I shouted out begging them not to subject me to the same mutilation, but once the electrodes were placed over the relevant areas of my right groin, I could feel no pain at all. (I remember the first electrode wasn't placed properly, so The Enforcer put them back on properly.) At that point I pulled the curtain to my left and saw two other young men, about my age, possibly people I knew from my real life work, also about to have the same procedure, although I asked them if they had already had this procedure too. They shook their heads. At that point, The Enforcer applied the scalpel and painlessly opened up my inguinal canal, then with a clean and ungloved hand proceeded to manipulate its contents in order to remove any hernia and relieve any discomfort. I peered down to look, and saw very little obvious, apart from perhaps my penis lying inside there for some reason. At that point, I shouted at the other fellow recruits to run and escape, but then I stayed to continue the surgery and eventually passed out.

I woke up later, thinking I was in my holding room waiting for the next medical procedure (the same thing, except in my left groin) except the reality was that I was back in my own bedroom and I had actually woken up.

Last night I dreamt of fire.

It never spread and did no damage at all, but there was a sense of urgency to extinguish it when it was seen. It kept appearing in random places, about the size of a bunsen burner flame. I keep checking everywhere to see if flames had appeared there or not.

The first dream was a continuation of yesterdays, which kind of brought it to conclusion.
...

... the odds of continuing a previous dream is exceptionally slim and that's when you wake up and go straight back to sleep. The odds of continuing the same dream the next day or a couple of days later is astronomical.
...
On the other hand, given that you dreamed about the original dream one night and found it vivid enough that you could recall the exact events the following day here on the TrekBBS, could the immediate follow-up dream be merely based on the act of the write-up of the previous dream here on TrekBBS? (God forbid you should end up dreaming about the TrekBBS... Actually I have dreamed about logging onto the TrekBBS once - where I didn't see bad things happen to me as much as learn bad news for me - but that's another story.) Or indeed could follow-up or recurring dreams be based on any conscious attempt to remember the dream during the awake state?

The scary thing is that this was the very first time I had ever dreamed about Stephanie from LazyTown.

Chris Hansen KNOWS you're lying.

^^ Just you wait. I'll see what tonight brings. ;)

I wonder if it is possible to will yourself back into a dream? I'd like to see what happened to me and that mysterious woman in the white mansion again...
It's funny you guys all mention that. One time shortly after these conversations, I had a dream which actually did turn out to be a continuation of the white mansion dream I mentioned above, with myself and the girl working together to solve some problem or dilemma which I don't recall offhand. The most striking thing about it was that Holdfast was in the dream too, appearing in the shadows from out of nowhere, dressed as sharply as ever, made some comment, then disappeared into the shadows again, never to be seen again. To this day I still have no idea what that was all about.

It pleases me to be the most memorable thing about your dreams...

Well, I say pleased. I'm actually kind of worried, and looking over my shoulder...

I had an awesome dream last night. Actually I had the same dream twice, with some minor variations between the two times. I mention it not just because it was cool, but because it has an echo of your dream ZR.

I was in some kind of funky race against lots of other people. No idea why, but the aim was to get from a point in the middle of a forest wilderness which just happened to have the ExCeL Centre in the middle of it as the starting point, to a location in a nearby town (though this changed later in the dream). I think there was some kind of major monetary reward involved. Londoners/British readers will doubtless appreciate the irony of my dream having the ExCeL centre randomly located in the middle of a natural wilderness as opposed to being randomly located in middle of the concrete wilderness of the real thing...

Anyway, for some reason all contestants were grouped into pairs, and my teammate was this cute chick who was like an amalgam of a couple of exes, except that she was about 20. I mean, really cute!

So, we're about to start the race and I realise that I'm dressed in a pair of brand new Edward Green black captoes and the first obstacle is a really muddy forest pathway. And by really muddy, I mean Sunday of Glastonbury after a torrential rainfall level of muddiness. But the girl's off already so I have to follow on. Besides, as well as her, there's the reward money at stake! So I start running and realise that somehow I have, like, super-scrambling skills. I can be incredibly light on my feet such that the mud doesn't really stick to the shoes and I can effortlessly bounce through the undergrowth & trees like in those martial arts films.

We end up in some wooden building, like a cross between an old-fashioned inn and some kind of underground labyrinth and we're running through it and it turns out it's filled with lots of booby traps that are catching out lots of the other contestants. But with my Super Upgraded Martial Arts Skillz, we can dodge through them all. Because I'm just that awesome. The chick's not bad at the game either and we're making good time.

There was a cool soundtrack to all of this too, like I'm in a video game or movie. Not a pounding adrenaline track, but some kind of soaring power-ballad.

Anyway, cutting the rest of the race short, it turns out the finish line is Stonehenge. The two of us burst out of the wooden building onto Salisbury Plain and then it's a head to head race with another team to the centre of the stone circle. I won, of course. :D

Top dream.

(you never know, ZR, it might have been that our dreams merged and I was racing against you and your mystery woman! )

dreamed I had to bake a cake for my grandmother but she was diabetic and i put too much icing on after I went and bought the cake pans and the cake mix and the thing of icing that the lid was off of but it was a second hand used store that had these things second hand and the icing was still sealed but there was no lid ., It was ok by me then we opened it and the icing was green and yellow and sorta rotten but they said it was ok so I left to go bake the cake then when I got to grandma's house she was dead and they were moving new people in but I had always wanted to live in my grandmothers apartment and they would not let me do that ... at least my grandmother finially died usually in dreams she is living and just like sitting around smoking pot or something :) l ---

I recently had an intense, realistic, dream about teaching a teenage Reticulan Gray alien how to surf. There were clouds and sunshine and the salty scent of the ocean; also the feeling through my feet of walking on the sand was spot on.

The other surfers thought it was cool an alien would want to surf. It was a happy dream with lots of fun and good things happening.

I know its just a dream 'cause I don't know anything about surfing, let alone teaching someone how to. Also, my car doesn't have a roof rack for surfboards. Without those clues I might remember this dream as a real event.

Sorry to disappoint you, but unfortunately you wouldn't be the first person on the TrekBBS who appeared in my dreams. [:wtf: :wtf: :wtf: - someone]
(you never know, ZR, it might have been that our dreams merged and I was racing against you and your mystery woman! )
Nah. My mysterious woman wasn't "super cute".
