The Inevitable TOS Reboot

I mean, given how much younger millennials look on average, one can only assume that by the 2260s, anything older than 25 and younger than 60 is arbitrary.

If the movies start up again, there won't be a TOS reboot on TV. If -- if -- it's feasible to have blockbusters again, that's the route they'll go.

Otherwise, yeah, like The Old Mixer said, that show wouldn't come out until after Strange New Worlds. This hypothetical series would probably follow the same mold as SNW.
Or, the show could be Strange New Worlds. ;)

But this begs the question to be raised: Will Strange New Worlds be too similar to the Kelvin Films... or will the execution make the difference? The Kelvin Films -- and the Star Trek films in general -- aren't and haven't been about exploring "strange new worlds", while SNW will be.

I assume the Kelvin films will still be about big screen spectaculars. SNW in theory won't be telling those types of stories.

Admiral uniform is too gaudy.
Command uniform turtleneck is a different color to the pant stripe.
Enlisted needs ranks.
I take it that "that's how it used to be" is not an adequate excuse. I'll grant that the Enlisted uniform should have shoulder straps to display rank and potentially division. The color inconsistency is consistent with TWOK. And I kind of like it.
And Kirk is how old in 2260/61? Twenty seven or twenty eight. You really think those three years make a difference?
No, you're right. It just feels a bit weird for me personally that an actor a decade older than me is playing a character younger than me. Not that that's particularly unusual.
The inevitable TOS reboot will have new uniforms. Count on it. Starfleet Academy, new uniforms. Section 31, new uniforms. Picard Season 3, new uniforms.
It's the one constant in the universe.

I mean, of course it's a fine excuse. The colors just don't work. Also, the command doesn't work largely because the red stripes tied in to the maroon top.

But, if it works for you then cool.

I'd be willing to change it, but that won't make it any more real.

Tonight, we are a giant step closer to a TOS series reboot:

And I welcome it. Still plenty of adventures between the ones we already saw in the original 79 episodes.

I mean, it's your project.
It's not a project for this thread. If I come up with enough to warrant its own thread, it'll go in Fan Art where it belongs.

As for the inevitable TOS reboot, I'm up for it regardless of when it's set (but I'm still hoping for post-TMP).

i'm interested to see who they cast as McCoy, Scotty, Sulu and Chekov since we already got Spock, Uhura, Chapel and now Kirk recasted.

On a side note: Katie Cassidy or Emily Brett Rickards as Carol Marcus.

If they do end up re-casting the entire TOS crew, it’s entirely possible that we will eventually see the post-TMP show. It depends on how said inevitable reboot is done. But I’m going to gather they’re going to focus on the time between Disco season 2 and TOS season 1 for the foreseeable future.

besides the first year (2265-2266), the time period between The Motion Picture and The Wrath of Khan is virtually untouched.

A reboot of TOS is needed at this point. Don't get me wrong - I love it, and grew up with it. BUT (and this is a king-sized BUT).....there are SO MANY things in TOS that just don't work anymore. Let's face it, it's HUGELY sexist. It's so bad that every single time I've tried to introduce it to a woman, she's turned off. I don't mean mini-skirts, even women that didn't mind the costumes had big problems with how women are portrayed. Yeoman Rand got ATTACKED by a version of HER BOSS, and everyone was just cool with it. There are comments about women not being on the bridge, or being unable to command a ship. It's pretty rampant.

And even remastered, the sets just don't work. They look cheap and 60's. Ditto with the design of the Enterprise. The swept back nacelles and lighting of the Discovery version of the ship look contemporary - the original design, even remastered, just looks 60's - and not in a retro-chic way.

A soft reboot that keeps some of Gene's hard messages about humanity, religion, etc. would be fantastic! And like it or not....would draw fans in.

Oh absolutely. And I’d love to see something in that era. But that’s not what they’re doing at the moment.
