^ He was the only bright spot in this movie, as far as I'm concerned. Alas, his scenes were incredibly short :(

Jay Chou was good. Too bad he had dumb ass lines too that were hampered by Rogen and Goldberg's script.

And I never could figure out his actual job--right hand man of the father, is that a real position?--until he was appointed Editor in Chief at the end.

Was he an editor of the news section or something? I'm not sure.

He just seemed to be there to be the Nice Father Figure.

Re: The Green Hornet: Grade, Review, Discuss, Speculate-Seth Rogan 1.1

I enjoyed this for what it was.. Not a serious take on the series, but not a complete spoof..

I enjoyed Seth Rogan more in this than anything else he's been in.. mostly because it didnt' involve him smoking pot every other scene.. The stupid look on his face after he gassed himself not withstanding..

The only REAL blah issue I had was the news conference at the end as a way to cover up the bullet wound.. Any doctor would know that the wound was at the very least, several hours old.. Just sayin'....

And no bullet hole in the clothes. Or did they add one? I mean, no one was saying, "Hey Reid, you have a hole in your suit, do you want to change it before your speech?"

You'd also think the police would have been all over doing forensics on the bullet to discover the origins of TGH's/Kato's gun only to discover the bullet came from the gun of one of the local police officers.

That was lifted directly from the TV series. I saw that episode during the marathon on Syfy.

That makes it feel like they really were trying to, at times, honor the show then. :techman:

Re: The Green Hornet: Grade, Review, Discuss, Speculate-Seth Rogan 1.1

I was debating between a D or F....(I chose F).

Could have been so much better.

My friend wanted to see it because she was a fan of Jay Chou...(I do admit, he was actually the best part of the movie. Rogen's Reid wasn't likable or serious...and the story was boring, IMO).

I'm getting a headache thinking about it, so I'm going to stop now.

I look at it as kind of a switcheroo.

The old Batman series was very camp, and the movie "relaunches" (both Burton's and the Bale's) were both very serious.

Conversely, the old TV Green Hornet was very serious, and the movie "relaunch" was... well, not so much serious.

Re: The Green Hornet: Grade, Review, Discuss, Speculate-Seth Rogan 1.1

Out doing press rounds for The Green Hornet in Taipei Jay Chou had this nugget of a sound bite.

Chou said Sony Pictures has decided to make a sequel to "The Green Hornet" and that he will reappear in the same role.
However, that appearance will mark the end of his Hollywood career — at least for a time.
"After this, I will not do another Hollywood film but rather go back to my music,"

Granted it's far from an official statement and who even knows if Sony has actually talked to him/his agent but thought I'd post it. Could just be he knows he signed a two picture deal.

All will be revealed and maybe there is some truth to this statement.

Re: The Green Hornet: Grade, Review, Discuss, Speculate-Seth Rogan 1.1

Saw this today. Ridiculously over-the-top but no doubt fun and a little funny at times.

I thought Seth Rogen was completely miscast in this role and I stand by it. While Rogen is funny and a pretty good actor (going back to his Freaks and Geeks days), it's impossible to take his character serious. Like the action, he's completely over-the-top and his character goes through the motions in a very annoying way. He was too goofy for the role.

His interaction with Jay Chou is a lot of fun though and Chou does a nice job as Kato. He pulls off the legit badass thing. Cameron Diaz was good and it's nice to see EJO in something. Shame he didn't have more screen time. Waltz was also good in his role. I heard Nicholas Cage was supposed to play that role but dropped out because he wanted to play the character with a Jamacian accent. Not that not appearing in The Green Hornet is no great loss but this shows you what kind of a nut Nicholas Cage is. Loved James Franco's cameo and he's very funny in the beginning.

Agreed. While overall I enjoyed the movie for what it was, I think the movie could have taken a definite step up in quality with a better suited lead.

Well, his suit looked okay.

Yeah that seemed/s to be the general feeling that Rogen was way over-the-top in the part. And, yeah, that's his thing but it's hard to take the material and the "growth" his character goes through seriously when he's a ranting lunatic the whole movie and a ranting loon even after he supposedly goes through the "character growth." I mean he puts all the pieces of this puzzle together with his father, the DA, the paper, the Red Mask, etc and he does all of this research and brings it all to Gwyneth and says he has had this big epiphany and he's realized all that was wrong and he's sorry and all that and then you think, "Oh! This guy has grown up and is finally going to act like more of a goddamn adult."

Then he tries to mouth-rape the woman.

And continues to act like a crack-addled asshole.

C

Thought it was moderately entertaining... but really wished that they would've selected actors other than Rogen and Diaz.

Yeah, the guy is an asshole throughout the entire film and even when he "grows up" it's hard to take him seriously. Not to mention he doesn't strike me as smart enough to put that whole thing together at the end. Though I did think the DA's line about him having that stupid look on his face for five minutes was pretty funny.

Re: The Green Hornet: Grade, Review, Discuss, Speculate-Seth Rogan 1.1

The Green Hornet held steady over the weekend while last weeks openers The Mechanic and The Rite fell below TGH in the weekend standings. Hornet in its 4th weekend held at the #5 spot with another $6.1m for a domestic total of $87.2m. Along with updated international totals The Green Hornet now stands at $171m worldwide.

It seems the film is getting good response. Now that the ground work has been laid I hope any sequel can be an improvement. Cause while it was fun and I liked it Rogan's Britt is the one character that could use some polishing for the sequel. Not saying take the humor away, just polish things up a bit.
