Re: The Green Hornet: Grade, Review, Discuss, Speculate-Seth Rogan 1.1

I think a mature Reid in the next film would be great for character growth...but knowing Goldberg and Rogen's previous works I think they'll still go more for the joke/buddy film aspect of GH which was revved up in the film. Even the serious moments were ruined I thought by Rogen's inane jokes. There were some humorous moments from him...I just think he was really bombastic. Especially in his pursuit of Elenore.

Agreed. It's hard to see the "growth" in him when the entire time he's acting like a lunatic. There's supposed to be a "growth moment" in him when he finally figures out what happened with his father and the meaning of his life but then he goes to talk to Elenore about it and convince her to come back and his raving and ranting again while also sexually molesting her.

Somehow his antics get her to return to work. It just doesn't work when everyone is acting "normal" and he's acting like a lunatic in need of a good dose of Ritalin.

I just assumed that Eleanore agreed to come back to work for him because she was so annoyed by his antics and the fact that he doubled his salary. I also found it hard to accept him as The Green Hornet out of the blue. With no training or previous desire whatsoever, he just kind of automatically decides to become a vigilante and happens to have the money and the ingenious sidekick with martial arts abilities to help him. There were too many flaws in this movie to allow me to enjoy it.

Re: The Green Hornet: Grade, Review, Discuss, Speculate-Seth Rogan 1.1

Yeah. Rogen's antics just didn't work for the "tone" of this movie. It was hard to take his character's arc seriously when he's being a rambling, yelling, idiot the whole time.

Oh, dear Lord, this. Yes.

This was exactly what I feared when I first heard *he* was doing it. I really wanted to love this, too, being a Green Hornet fan from way back. :(

Weekend Actuals have been released and The Green Hornet is now the 2nd highest MLK weekend opener pulling in just over $40m domestic. Also opening in about 30 foregin markest (mostly Europe) it pulled in another $16.1m for a 4-day haul of $56.1m out of the gate. Just shy of half the production budget of $120m.

Not sure what the suits think but opinion about the net I hear is that Jay Chou is a fairly big pop star in the Asian markets so look for the film to do well there when it opens.

Jay Chou is a superstar over there. So yeah it should do well once it hits Asia.

And right now the studio is calling Seth Rogen to begin work on the sequel.

As I said in my review I mostly liked this movie in spite of finding Rogen's usual antics unfitting for the tone of the movie and how everyone else was behaving. Still it seems like it'd be an interesting franchise.

Re: The Green Hornet: Grade, Review, Discuss, Speculate-Seth Rogan 1.1

I have a feeling Michel Gondry won't return for The Green Hornet 2. Gondry even said during press junkets for the first film that he didn't feel like the movie was "his", and instead belonged more to producer Neal Mortiz (who produced the Fast and the Furious movies) and Seth Rogen.

For example, the inclusion of "Gangster's Paradise" was not Gondry's idea, and he even heavily protested against it, but Mortiz and Rogen wanted it, and eventually won over Gondry. I have a feeling many other decisions were made where Gondry lost out to Mortiz and Rogen's influence.

Re: The Green Hornet: Grade, Review, Discuss, Speculate-Seth Rogan 1.1

After seeing the film I can understand why. Seth dominates this film inside and out. I'm sure they'll find another director if that's the case. I probably won't be seeing a sequel.

Re: The Green Hornet: Grade, Review, Discuss, Speculate-Seth Rogan 1.1

That makes sense then, it didn't feel as visually stunning as a Gondry film usually is.

Re: The Green Hornet: Grade, Review, Discuss, Speculate-Seth Rogan 1.1

Yeah 90% of it was very conventional looking.

Re: The Green Hornet: Grade, Review, Discuss, Speculate-Seth Rogan 1.1

Just finished it....

Should be called Douche Hornet.

also: has the Hornet never heard of Starbucks? You can go THERE and get online. Hell, LOTS Of places that isn't where, you know, where you work. Important when the bad guys know who you are.

Just disappointed. I will be actively discouraging people from seeing it.

I didn't mind the choice of tone, it coulda worked with a 80's Bill Murray... But Seth's constant yapping... Ugh

Re: The Green Hornet: Grade, Review, Discuss, Speculate-Seth Rogan 1.1

^ Agreed Zoom...that is the way Britt acted in the film and how Seth portrayed him. I mean I know this is Seth's usual demeanor in films (I quite liked him in Zack and Miri Made a Porno) but he was just simply over the top in nearly every single scene. This has got to be one of my least liked films in years! Right up there with "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" as far as I'm concerned.

Re: The Green Hornet: Grade, Review, Discuss, Speculate-Seth Rogan 1.1

The Green Hornet had a very solid second weekend finishing #2 with another $18m more. Raising its domestic total to $63m and WW at $78m.

Re: The Green Hornet: Grade, Review, Discuss, Speculate-Seth Rogan 1.1

Not surprising that it is doing well. It is superfluous piece film. Mindless entertainment without much substance. Glad to see "The King's Speech" in the top five now.

Re: The Green Hornet: Grade, Review, Discuss, Speculate-Seth Rogan 1.1

Seems to be having a respectable run but I still think this movie could've really been something else in the otherwise dry Summer for movies last year. May be a franchise here, folks. Which, again, I'm fine with so long as Rogen calms the fuck down in the next one.
