Spoilers The Good Place Season 4

Yes, it is. They talked about filming there in this week's podcast. Only the exterior shots were there because of time constraints for the museum, who only allows very select productions to film there.

That was definitely not what I expected The Good Place (the location not the show) to end up being. The whole thing with everything there being so great all the time, turning your brain to mush was a nice idea, and the door was an interesting solution.
So that was Lisa Kudrow playing? I thought she seemed familiar, but I've never watched Friends, so I didn't recognize her.
The beings who had been running it taking off on Micheal was pretty funny.
Stoned Micheal was hilarious.
My first thought when they talked about the door was that you were reincarnted on the other side, and I see a couple other people here thought the same thing.
I do agree that the finale is probably going to be the characters all getting ready to go through the door. I just hope it is something good on the other side and not just total nothingness.

What's the difference between Eleanor's plan and The Judge's plan other than there's a party in the middle?
The difference is that every person bets to make their own decision, they can go through the door at any point or not at all and life in earth goes on. The judge was going to end it all right now.
The twist might be that the good place sucks, it might be torture for the people there, unintended by the good place architects but still torture. Look at how annoyingly chipper Nicole Byers good place postal worker was, or how over the top PC and supportive the Committee is, imagine living among them or in a place they think is good, it could drive people nuts.
And of course there's too much of a good thing, imagine hearing your favorite songs every time you turn on the radio, getting your favorite food all the time, always friendly people who agree with you on everything and love every idea no matter what.
Our main four were great for each other because on paper they were awful for each other, the good place would NEVER put them together.

What if next week they run into an actual good place resident and that person screams "OMG, real people! Get me out of here, this is hell!"? That would be a better twist than cheating demons. They already effectively got rid of the bad place, the finale could be about getting rid of the good place too because so far they have only redesigned half of the afterlife.
Yup, called it.

The door is a great idea, this isn't the first show that points out that for life (or in this case existence) to have meaning it has to be finite and with all those new people that will soon enter the new place there should be more stimuli for the people already there.

For the finale I expect a ton of recurring characters to return as good place residents, Tahani's family for example, she made peace with Kamila but it would be nice to see her parents again to show that the new system actually works and they have become better people.

What would be so bad with letting them cease to exist? They go extended life and because of the afterlife it means they got to experience everything one could one want out of life but is it really appealing to just live to live? It reminds of the Voyager episode "Death Wish" were Q2 wanted to die. Also it's amazing in that we have a tv show exploring a idea I have had for awhile about the flaws of a actually afterlife. Only thing missing which I know they would never do but I think people in such a afterlife would eventually miss their humanity so much they would even miss the bad things. Racism and violence and terrible stuff we hate but if you take it away then you would feel a void because human suffering IS part of what it means to be human and to remove is to remove a big chuck of who you really are as a person.

Then it's imperfect. It's like people I've heard over the years saying "A perfect partner would be boring." You're not using the word perfect correctly.

Of course, it is the GOOD place. Not the PERFECT place. By extension (and they've kind of said as much) the Bad Place isn't that bad either.

What's the difference between Eleanor's plan and The Judge's plan other than there's a party in the middle?

Walking through that door is no different than what we think dying is in the real world, only they get to do it on their own terms.

I think what you’re really arguing is perfection can’t exist, at least not the way humans are built.

What would be so bad with letting them cease to exist?
Nothing. Except they just ran around like crazy people with even the Janets united to stop the judge from causing them all to cease to exist.

I love this show and it's one of the most imaginative things I've seen in forever. But "Getting everything you want is boring" isn't all that imaginative or original and neither is deciding that The Good Place is just getting everything you ever wanted forever. I mean, wouldn't one of the things that you'd want be not having your brain become mush?

We're all probably going to cease to exist after 70-90 years, is it really sad that they lived in paradise for thousands of years and ended it on their own terms?

One way to look at them all dying at the end is that yes they all choose to die as in really die but what they leave behind still goes on. They made the afterlife a better place so they are leaving behind a legacy that makes things better for all humans for the rest of time. I could see all of them walking through the door except Michael because as a demon maybe he is immune to negative effects of immortality. Then you cut to a billion years in the future and you see a young lady in weird futuristic clothes of course since it is the future waiting for him and you come full circle to the first scene of the show with Elenaor were he greets her to the Good Place for real. Maybe even have it be Kristen Bell playing a family descendent. On the wall he has a picture of team cochroach next to the Jeremy Belllamy pic.

So we're all thinking that the series finale is them spending the next several hundred/thousand years together until they (including Michael) get bored and decide to walk through the door, which is the last scene of the show? I mean, I can't think of anything else for the ending that would work half as well. This show does like to throw curve balls at us though, but I doubt they'll pull another twist this late in the game.

I also expect us to see all (most?) of the guest stars in the series finale. Eventually they'll die too, pass their tests, and reunite with our main characters in the Good Place. Eleanor will get to spend time with her mom and Chidi's family will finally see that he's become a confident man, and so forth. Just a super sweet episode that is totally deserved after the thousands of years of misery these characters have gone through.

That’s basically what I expect too, the secondary characters get all their closure and we see it through to the end.

Though I give a 50/50 chance the door actually reincarnates you.

I wonder if they would do something like have a historically awful person show up as a reformed person. Not as far as a version of Hitler who realized Jews are equals after all, but somebody awful. At the very least Brent will show up and be a good guy. Maybe they will have historical figures who hated each other having fun together.

I’m not sure how Eleanor could have family descendants unless they come from cousin branches we don’t know about. I guess it’s possible her mother had her young enough that the door isn’t closed on that yet and she could decide to have another child who she gives all the love she never gave Eleanor, but seems unlikely.

I think not all of them will go through the door or in the case of Janet our Janet will but we might see her sort of passing the torch to Bad Janet who is now a good Janet.

I think they will go through the door and what's on the other side will be a final surprise, I don't believe it's simply non existence, they made a point that Michael doesn't know so I think it's something.

Final twist prediction:

There really is a best place and they have opened the door and made it accessible for those willing to take the risk.

I’ve been thinking about whether it’s possible to craft a version of paradise you never get bored of. It’s a little paradoxical, to get as close to perfection as possible you have to not quite be perfect.

What if you introduced a little bit of conflict, and a little bit of shared community responsibility? Like everyone had some kind of job in the neighborhood that was necessary to keep the neighborhood running? But, everyone gets a job they enjoy, and only have to work slightly longer than they would choose to work. And no discrimination or office politics or crap like that, and everybody equally reaps the benefits. But small problems arise here and there that you need to work together into fix.

The kind of place that for it to be paradise, everyone has to work a little to keep it paradise. Just the right amount of adversity and conflict to make the rest seem perfect.

But people would eventually grow board with the jobs. Eternity is very very long time and how many low level problems can you throw at people without them getting bored. Because in the end you would also know the problems are manufactured and nothing truly bad would ever happen. It's the whole Kirk no longer feeling afraid of jumping ravines on his horse in "Generations." thing. I think what people would miss is something to strive for beyond just having fun. Things to overcome even serious things that can truly harm you. It's why I have said that eventually people would even miss the evil things on earth because as bad as that stuff is, it is very much part of the human experience and what helps make us who we are. We all know the world can suck and kill us or harm us anytime and we just have to deal with that reality and try and still rise above the fear.

So have people change jobs every so often, build totally new skills. It might not make it last forever but still longer.

Maybe to keep things thrilling make it like a video game, if you die you go back to the respawn point. Or make it so you can fine tune up and down your experience of pain so you can still have consequences for failure. It might not please the real adrenaline junkies but it’d at least make paradise last longer.

None of these are perfect solutions, but I think adding real consequences and real responsibilities that other people depend on would extend the enjoyabolity of paradise.

And there’s probably avenues of development you can’t even explore in a human body. Say you get your hardware updated so you can fully imagine a 4D space. Imagine the new boundaries of art, gaming. That alone would add another millennium of hobbies.
