The Good Place Season 2

I read an article earlier today that pointed out that Micheal, Eleanor and the others are the only ones in the town now, that honestly didn't occur to me last night.

I liked the blink and you'll miss it reveal that shows Jason's "Catch that magic panda, use her powers." plan was actually a legitimate plan.

I think the ‘Michael is also a torture victim’ theory is still possible.

I had a Good Place dream last night. Basically I was in the Bad Place on the run from the demons. Only I was hiding in this movie theatre where next to the theatre there was a bar with the movie on all screens.

And now I’m just thinking, that would be kinda awesome? A bar that screens movies. Especially for dumb comedies where the alcohol will greatly enhance the film.

New episode tonight
Best Self: Micheal finds himself in a bind. Meanwhile, Eleanor sparks an idea that has Chidi, Tahani, Jason, and even Janet laying their feelings on the line.

Good episode. I feel like the whole hot balloon thing was classic torture by Michael. He gets their hopes up that they are going to the Good Place, but the balloon green lights everybody except one. So the crew now has to decide if they leave someone behind or all stay behind. They also have to rack their brains to figure out why they are their best self. And of course, when Chidi gets a green light, then its Eleanor who gets the red light. So it was always someone who could not board the balloon. The whole scenario was classic torture. I am surprised that Eleanor did not see that. I think Michael is still torturing them, just getting more creative since they figured out his first trick with the fake Good Place. In fact, this whole quest to get to the Bad Place HQ in order to see the Judge might be a trick by Michael to trap our characters in the real Bad Place. There was actually a quick shot of Michael doing his "evil grin" when they boarded the train. I would not be surprised at all if this season ends with Michael saying "Surprise! I was faking being your friend the whole time. You are still being tortured. You can never get to the Good Place. And now you are trapped forever in the Bad Place with no escape. MUHAHA"

I guess it's possible, but it seems really unlikely to me. Haven't we seen some stuff from his perspective that still went along with everything he's said?
The stuff with the balloon was pretty good.
I wonder if this is actually the last we'll see of the neighborhood?

The alternative is that Michael really has changed. It's possible. But considering that he is playing a demon, I think it is also very likely that he is still evil and manipulating our characters.

Yes and I also liked the auto correct joke at the end when Sean texts about torture soup.

I wonder if this is actually the last we'll see of the neighborhood?

Considering that the final shot was of the neighborhood vanishing into black, I think we are supposed to believe that.

What if after the neighborhood failed the first time, Sean decided to add Michael to the torture list, and did so by planting the subconscious idea in the humans' heads that they are not in the Good Place, and planted human emotions in Michael?

If you think about it, every single thing that's happened since the start of the season has made Michael miserable. And if you follow the sequence of events, when did Sean show up? Right AFTER Michael got the idea to secretly help the humans, and started making them and himself less miserable. He shows up out of the blue, praises him but also threatens to scan the humans' brains which would reveal his deceit, then leaves him alone for just enough time to hatch a plan.

Could Michael's punishment for failing the first time, rather than being torn apart molecule by molecule, be ironically receiving the same treatment he came up with for the humans?

I also wonder if somehow, this is all going to turn out to actually be purgatory.

You never know for sure with this show but even if Michael is trying to be good I imagine he'd still do some of those things just cause he can't help himself.

One thing that the show hasn't really addressed yet, Michael has a selfish motive to help the humans he hasn't mentioned. If Sean finds out there were hundreds of reboots, he's in deep trouble. Sean said that their brains were going to be examined, meaning they would definitely find out.

So Michael doesn't have to be changed to be really trying to help them, if helping is them is they way for him to escape.

I can't imagine all is as it appears to be, but I also can't imagine they'd just straight up repeat the twist from the first season. So far best alternatives I have thought of are the 'Michael is being tortured' theory and 'Michael just wants to escape and is really trying to play both sides until he finds a way to escape without being caught'.

After watching last night's episode, Michael may appears to be "good", or at least better.
Michael let's himself get caught by Sean in order to help our characters escape to see the judge. Unless, the show has some kind of massive plot twist coming, it certainly seems like Michael might have turned "good" or at least better. I wonder if the show is planning to end this season. It certainly seems to be reaching a final conclusion where our characters see the judge and either get admitted into the real Good Place or get to go to their own version of a Good Place.

I've seen quite a few shows completely upend the premise, so I have a feeling the show will continue no matter what happens with the judge.
This episode was a lot of fun. The different ways everybody tried to fit in with demons were all pretty fun. I feel bad for poor Chidi, even though he's no longer being purposefully tortured he still keeps ending up miserable.
The robots in museum exhibit and Good Janet trying to act like Bad Janet were especially funny.
I missed, what was Micheal's cover story when he first went into Shawn's office?
I wonder if that demon Micheal ran into in the hall is what they all normally look like?

True. The characters could enter the real Good Place and the show could just continue telling stories about what they do there. I am sure there are lots of stories they could tell about our character trying to acclimate themselves to the real Good Place and/or not fitting in. It would not contradict the title of the show which is "The Good Place". Heck, maybe the title of the show is both an allusion to the fake Good Place where the characters started and the real Good Place where they end up?

He gives Shawn a folder with extradition papers to bring our characters back from Mindy's and says he just needs to go the judge to get the papers signed and then he was going to take a team to get our characters back. But Shawn throws the folder into the trash because he already has a plan for getting our characters back.

No, we've seen other creatures like the lava monster on a smoke break in an earlier episode.

I'm rooting for Jacksonville to win the Super Bowl just because of The Good Place and the game is on NBC. How amazingly coincidental would that be.

This episode seems to confirm that Michael really is on the human side. Unless he has some kind of long game we're not seeing where this is all setting up some kind of windfall for him nobody sees coming. Still possible that Michael is being tortured.

I'm remembering that part in Lost where they made a joke about the Red Sox never winning the series that aired after they won the series. I'm wondering if we're heading for a repeat of that in The Good Place, a reference to Jacksonville never winning a Super Bowl after they do. :)

I guess Michael could still be running a con (though Shawn would probably have to be in on it) but I don't think so.

I suspect we see Eleanor and the rest coming back to the bad place to pull Michael out next week though.
