Fuck canon.Enterprise proved how difficult a Trek prequel is to manage. 24 series of 23rd-24th century Trek just leaves too much canon to navigate around.

Thank you, Buckaroo Banzai!discovery will be set where ever they end up
These are the temporal headaches that every ST fan gets in any series.
I wouldn't be surprised if they spend a season 1000 years in the future, then return to the 23rd century, but miss by 15-20 years and end up in the TOS movie-verse era (which is largely a blank slate).
It's strange. When Discovery was announced almost everybody wanted the show to be set in a future era. Now that they do this, a lot of people apparently want the vessel return to an already known time period. Interestingly they are often the same ones who griped about canon mistakes before the show had a chance to resolve them.
I guess they're damned if they do and damned if they don't![]()
They jump to a future where the historical documents reveal that the Federation collapses and is run over by The Dominion because PG was not there to make sure Section 31 becomes the Dark Ops needed to do the deeds, like create genetic viruses that almost destroyed The Link and Odo in the 24th century. Considering PG has access to the Defiant's records maybe she knows something about how to get back.
