Spoilers The Flash - Season 2

In the comics Spivot is Barry's girlfriend.

Barry and Iris are still not together?

I guess he's fair game then?

Unless she's a cape####er?

If Spivot stays around for awhile, I wonder if they'll turn her into some Arrowverse version of Hot Pursuit.

Though I think Earth 1 Henry Allen knows a lot more than Barry thinks he knows....
Have they ever mentioned his or Barry's full names on the show?

TPTB have a history with middle name shenanigans. I was thinking the other day that what if both they're both Bartholomew Henry and Barry is just his nickname. Henry went by Bart as a kid, but hated it. Basically just flip-flopped from the comics. Earth-2 Henry still goes by Bart.

Kind of silly, I know. But I wouldn't be surprised if BerlantiCo starts thinking the JWS as Impulse would be a huge fan service moment.

 They did the cover!

I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't a heroic rescue, just an afterthought for the sake of doing the gag. But I guess with Jay lacking his speed, they couldn't have done it any other way. Still, maybe they should've saved it for the episode where Jay gets his speed back.

So...is Harrison Wells-2 also Zoom, or is that too obvious?

I suspect Wells's ominous entrance was a red herring and he'll turn out to be a good guy, which is how they'll get to keep Tom Cavanaugh as a regular.

As for Zoom, I find it interesting that Jay said that Zoom emerged around the same time that Jay became the Flash. Could it be that Jay was somehow split into two halves? Maybe that's why Zoom is so determined to destroy him?

On the other hand, Zoom seems to be wearing something that looks like Barry's old logo. Could he be a manifestation of some split-off aspect of Barry? Jay said he'd been the Flash for only a couple of years. The accelerator explosion was just under two years ago. What if it created the original breach between universes, and empowered both Barry and Jay at the same time? After all, that's how it created the metahuman powers, by opening a breach that allowed extradimensional energies to enter our world.

Really liked that they kept the heavy water origin for Jay.

Actually Jay's first origin story (didn't want to say "original origin story" -- oops, I did anyway) said he got his powers from the fumes of hard water, not heavy water. There was apparently a belief at the time that drinking hard water helped runners get faster. But since hard water is just water with a lot of minerals dissolved in it, hard water fumes would just be ordinary water vapor. It was a pretty stupid origin, which is why they later retconned it to heavy water. That's actually almost as stupid, though, since that's just water with deuterium atoms (hydrogen with an extra neutron) instead of ordinary hydrogen, and there's a small amount of it mixed into normal water anyway.

I am curious what Iris was told by Joe about her Mom. In a deleted scene from the finale she wished Barry could try and go back and save her Mom too. Did Joe lie and tell her she died??? If so his history of lying to his daughter goes way back before hiding Barry was the Flash!

Its possible the writers changed their original plan for her. Often deleted scenes are ignored by the same people who wrote them.

Yup. Writers change their minds and their plans all the time. Anything that isn't in the final work is subject to being changed or ignored. Heck, sometimes things that are in the final work get changed or ignored later.

I do have a question that the episode didn't make all that clear. Is there a difference between a Parallel Universe and a Multi-Verse?
A multiverse is a bunch of parallel universes, usually connected in some way.

So the TNG episode should have been called "Multi-Verse?" I'm still a little confused on the difference.

"Uni-" is Latin for "one," "multi-" is Latin for "many." "Multiverse" is simply an abbreviation for "multiple universes." Stein's line was misleadingly written when he said that a parallel universe should be called a multiverse instead. That's wrong, because a multiverse is a plurality of parallel or alternate universes, not just a single one. The parallel universes are the individual parts making up the whole that we call the multiverse.

Well the Mirror Universe in Trek was much more of an evil, funhouse version of our universe (where everything just happens to be the opposite), than the usual kinds of parallel universes we see in scifi. So it's probably not a good one to judge anything by.

As for this episode, I thought it was a lot of fun. The actor playing Jay really has a great, retro movie hero vibe to him, and the speed and lightning effects at the end were some of the most thrilling to watch on this show in a while. And the new detective girl (who definitely does not look old enough to be a detective) was pretty darn cute and charming as well.

She's fresh out of the academy. Joe even makes a comment that she hasn't gotten any bars(stripes?) yet.

Yeah that's what I thought, but Joe also calls her "detective" at the end, which threw me for a bit. But I guess he was either joking or it was her joining the task force that suddenly made her a detective. Although still, from other cop shows I always thought it was a job that took quite a while to work up to.

Patty did say something about having recently taken a test or something. I suppose she's a uniformed cop who took the detective's exam but hadn't been promoted yet.

I am not surprised that Barry likes her. She is very similar to Felicity, only much more confident.
Exactly his type. She has the best of Felicity and Iris.
I also think they had great chemistry together.

Anyone else think they might make lightning strike twice (pun intended) and get a love interest for the main hero that defys comic tradition like in Arrow because they work so much better than Barry and Iris in this case?

Barry and Patty are together in the comics, that's why she was brought in here. Barry and Iris were in the past continuity.

Who will take bets that Barry (either accidentally or on purpose) strikes Jay with his new Lightning Throw ability and jumpstarts his Speed ability again?

Very good episode, i like Jay Garrick a lot (even if his costume is extremely goofy, 50s style comics) and i also liked Barry's trust issues after Wells/Thawne's betrayal, seems like a natural result of the events.

Concerning Wells appearance i think it was outright stated that the actor, Tom Cavanaugh, will reprise his role as Wells for season 2 and the only way to do it is via a multiverse Dr. Wells which i guess will cross over to the main Earth and possibly stay there (good thing because i like Cavanaugh). They even laid the foundation for it by having the resident science genius have a seizure (probably emerging Firestorm powers) and will most likely be written out as a means to make room for Wells/Cavanough.

I really don't see this new Wells becoming the group leader again. Even if they are two different people, it would probably still be way too weird for both the characters and the audience.

Could be. I think there's something about Earth 1 that cut off Jay's speed; and I think the same thing is affecting Zoom. Why else would Zoom be sending surrogates to kill Barry instead of just killing Barry himself?

It could be that each reality has it's own speed force to plug into, and they're not compatible with each other. Kind of like having an AC plug and a DC outlet.

Which could be why Thawne lost his speed after severely pushing time off track by killing Nora Allen?

Although, It looked like Zoom put his hand inside Jay's chest just before he lost his powers/jumped worlds.

Iris Ramone?

Once she's left her period of mourning, she's going to want to date someone.

Dating eventually leads to kissing.

They could both do worse.

Oh no.. Cisco and Iris don't have this type of chemistry. It was talked about that Barry will get a love interest this season (that new policewoman? They seemed to hit it off big time) but eventually Iris and Barry will end up together (as much as Gideon can predict a safe future event given that Flash can travel through time and anything can happen).

For now the relationship between Barry and Iris is on the back burner but i guess it will heat up soon enough once Barry starts dating someone else. I just hope they don't drag it out for 3-4 seasons before getting them together, i hate artificially lengthened dramas.

Also a good point on why Zoom has not crossed over himself though how could he know about Reverse Flash or Jay Garrick? May be just his mode of operation to test this Earth's Speedster as he has no idea how strong Flash is but i guess he will make a personal appearance soon enough after Barry defeats enough of his mercenaries.

He's threatened two dudes "I'll send you back if you kill the Flash"

Surely the language means that he's on Earth I, or it'd have been I'll bring you back?

Meh?

I'm starting to hear it both ways.
