The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot

BobTheSkutter and I were just fantasising a spin off sitcom in the 'Confidential' slot. Each week, after the Doctor story we get 20 minutes of The Three Doctors spying on the set/trying to get into it etc. They have the comic genius to carry it off.

This.

This was great! I'll have to watch it again; a lot of the cameos went right by me the first time.

It occurred to me this morning that Colin Baker could've conceivably had a cameo in TDotD as an aged Commander Maxil.

That idea occurred to me back when we first started getting hints that the Time War would be featured in the special. Yes, it would have been a great way to bring back a former Doctor without having to worry about the age thing. But, then, logically, with a war looming, wouldn't Maxil have wanted to regenerate into a younger body so he could be in his prime to fight? Hell, by this point, Maxil could have been in enough battles to actually end up going through a few regenerations. Hell, the general wasn't named, so maybe he was Maxil?

Or what if they had Maxil regenerate into someone younger during the 50th, so Colin would finally have a chance to film a regeneration?

Or what if they had Maxil in it, not played by Colin, and the first we see is him lying on the ground in a blond wig, and then he regenerates!:p

The general didn't seem to like the Doctor.

Still the Doctor's solution was slightly less insane than the rest of the Time Lords, after all the High Council of the Time Lords were getting ready to impliment the Ultimate Sanction.

"Are you irritable? Depressed? Tired of your latest console room? Talk to YOUR castellan about Maxil. Side effects may include nausea, vomiting, spontaneous regeneration, wardrobe changes, and bad haircuts."

I always presumed officers would be Time Lords.
I would like to see Gallifrey Society fleshed out more in the future.

Is Maxil considered a Timelord, as opposed to a Gallifreyan, for purposes of being able to regenerate?

I'm pretty sure everyone in the Citadel was a Time Lord, while rank-and-file Gallifreyans lived outside it. The DW Wiki lists Maxil as a Time Lord.

And there's nothing in the Wiki to indicate that regeneration is limited only to Time Lords as opposed to Gallifreyans in general.

Loved all of the riffs and self-mocking jokes, particularly the ones involving family members, especially David Tennant forgetting Georgia giving birth (more important things to do!).

Yeah, that's one of my favourites, too. Also Georgia eating ice cream with a stick of celery.
Other favourites: "Does your "contact" happen to have a Scottish accent and be married to your daughter?", Davison's dream at the beginning correcting itself from "You were always my mother's favourite" to "You were always my favourite", John Barrowman's dark secret and RTD's mad story idea at the end.

I'd totally watch that.

I would be on board for either idea.

As the Guard Commander, I assumed he was a Time Lord.

I would definitely watch that.

I wouldn't want it too much, it would descend into painful farce. However, an hour or two feature that expands on them and their antics to be part of the next season would be an awesome Christmas episode to rival Ralphie trying to get his BB gun.

Does anyone know if this is on the DVD/Bluray of Day of the Doctor? Hopefully it isn't just something we'll only be able to access via youtube.

I think what we got was enough. I can't imagine them all living in the same house "Young Ones" style. I assume they'd need Eccleston as their Vyvyan and that'd never happen.

My favorite bit was Davison, Baker, and McCoy running towards John Barrowman down Wood Lane and only Baker not being out of breath.

I'm hoping "The Day of the Doctor" DVD release will come with all of the 50th Anniversary treats, including "The Night of the Doctor," "The Last Day," The Science of Doctor Who," "The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot," the Strax and Tenth/Eleventh cinematic introductions, and anything else I've forgotten. The only exception would be An Adventure in Space and Time which deserves (and I believe is getting) its own release.

I wasn't that impressed by The Science of Doctor Who. I'm not sure how this Brian Cox fellow ended up being a celebrity, since he's rather dull.

Although it's interesting that the anniversary celebrations have involved two separate people named Brian Cox -- the physicist in the special and the actor who played Sydney Newman in An Adventure in Space and Time.

I keep seeing people mention them possibly having been "under the sheets" in DOTD, but I don't recall seeing that alluded to in the short film, just them in the Daleks. Did I miss something? do I need to rewatch the short film?

Yes, the had to get out of the Dalek shells and were put under the sheets as Zygon stand-ins.
It's at the very very end.
It shows Moffat deleting the 3 Dalek scene and then revealing the sheet scene.

A second viewing is in order.
