The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot

^ Well, if he was a sport he could've lampooned all of that. Poked fun at his own "no more Doctor Who!" stuff, and it wouldn't necessarily had to have been any longer than the Barrowman bit. Something like "I told you I don't like revisiting past roles! Stop calling me!" or "Are you blokes really going to stalk me outside the pub? I'm not taking a road trip all the way to bloody Cardiff!" etc.

But yeah, it still would've meant that he was tangentially involved with the people he didn't get along with. He never would've agreed. 'Tis a shame.

He could have filmed all that in an afternoon in his living room. Which, in my opinion, either means that:

- No one asked him.
- He had other commitments which made it impossible for him to appear.
- He really is a bit of a jerk.

That was awesome, nice one Peter.

Loved the Janet Fielding dream. "It's not going to happen Pete!" very Tegan

Shame no CE, and no Tom either which would have been good. I sincerely hope it was really them under the shrouds :D

Tom was busy filming the 50th...

If they ever feel like bringing back an old character like they did with Sarah Jane in School Reunion, I think Tegan would work very well. In fact she'd be much more at home in the new series than she ever was in the old.

:guffaw: That was hilarious. Great to see so many familiar faces involved. A funny and entertaining alternative 50th anniversary celebration.

Loved it - really funny.

Nice to see the stuff from the Motormouth 2 convention that I went to - everything from Davison pulling up outside the hotel to the heads floating around SM was filmed there. In fact I might be in the background of the car pulling up scene as I was outside sitting at the tables in the background having a drink when they were filming it!

It was hilarious using the scene that was done for his vacancy in the 25th now that he can't be here for this 50th piece of fun.

"The Five Doctors" was the 20th anniversary. The 25th anniversary story was technically "Silver Nemesis," though nobody likes that one much, and the slightly earlier "Remembrance of the Daleks" works much better as a 25th-anniversary story.

And just to be even more nitpicky, the scene was actually filmed for "Shada," and was cut into "The Five Doctors" when Baker declined to participate.

But yeah, this was a lot of fun all around, and I loved all the in-jokes. Awesome that they even got Peter Jackson and Sir Ian McKellen to appear! And I loved the riff on the "Androzani" regeneration scene with all the old companions swirling around -- I'd have to watch that scene over and over to catch all the cameos. (Or read the credits. I caught Lisa Bowerman's name!)

So I suppose that since this had Moffat and RTD's involvement, was shot in conjunction with TDotD, and had the BBC Cymru logo and all, that makes this an official anniversary production even though it didn't air on TV. And that means that all the surviving Doctors, except Eccleston, participated in anniversary productions in one way or another. Which is great. (Although it's possible some of them may have had voiceovers in the climax of TDotD. I couldn't tell, since all the voices were overlapping.)

It occurred to me this morning that Colin Baker could've conceivably had a cameo in TDotD as an aged Commander Maxil. He could've been the general in charge of the war council! If only...

Anyway, I am really impressed by Peter Davison as an actor these days. I love his performances. I don't think he stood out quite so much when he was the Doctor, but he's gained a lot of gravitas and power now.

That idea occurred to me back when we first started getting hints that the Time War would be featured in the special. Yes, it would have been a great way to bring back a former Doctor without having to worry about the age thing. But, then, logically, with a war looming, wouldn't Maxil have wanted to regenerate into a younger body so he could be in his prime to fight? Hell, by this point, Maxil could have been in enough battles to actually end up going through a few regenerations. Hell, the general wasn't named, so maybe he was Maxil?

That was bloody brilliant! I loved all of the cameos, from most of the companions to Peter Jackson and Ian McKellen! Loved all of the riffs and self-mocking jokes, particularly the ones involving family members, especially David Tennant forgetting Georgia giving birth (more important things to do!). I'm guessing Jon Culshaw voiced Tom Baker on the voice mail recording considering I didn't see Tom's name in the credits?

I really hope that was actually them under the sheets. :D

BobTheSkutter and I were just fantasising a spin off sitcom in the 'Confidential' slot. Each week, after the Doctor story we get 20 minutes of The Three Doctors spying on the set/trying to get into it etc. They have the comic genius to carry it off.
