It really was wonderful and you could see the enthusiasm the actors have for the show and the appreciation they have for the fans. They also clearly like each other a lot which is nice, too.

Eccleston - who did not attend the event - praised director Joe Ahearne and joked about potential future 100th anniversary celebrations.
He said: "I love the BFI. I love the Doctor and hope you enjoy this presentation.
"Joe Ahearne directed five of the 13 episodes of the first series. He understood the tone the show needed completely - strong, bold, pacy visuals coupled with wit, warmth and a twinkle in the performances, missus.
"If Joe agrees to direct the 100th anniversary special, I will bring my sonic and a stair-lift and - providing the Daleks don't bring theirs - I, the Ninth Doctor, vow to save the universe and all you apes in it."
Chris Eccleston did do something to be involved in the 50 year celebrations. He sent a message along to the Doctor Who at 50 event where they showed his episodes.

Frankly, the way the way people act about his involvement I'm not surprised he doesn't want to be more involved. If he'd been more involved he'd have set the clock back to the day he left and had all the same questions and expectations from the self-entitled fans who think he personally owes them something for being involved in a show they loved.

Well of course not, that's because The Doctor has been erasing himself from every database in the universe.![]()

I wasn't that impressed by The Science of Doctor Who. I'm not sure how this Brian Cox fellow ended up being a celebrity, since he's rather dull.
Oh for god's sake, it's not about that. He's part of something much bigger than himself. All the living Doctors did something for this, even Tom Baker who hadn't returned to Doctor Who proper since leaving in '81. The ONLY one absent was Mr. I Have A Grudge Against People Who No Longer Work On The Show for Things That Happened in 2005. If he didn't want to do the 50th Anniversary episode because he's one of those John Hughes-type weirdos who go through some psychological process where they distance themselves from their past, fine. But he could've at least done this skit. He didn't even have to leave his living room to do it. And it's a damn shame. If he loves the Doctor like he says, he should've returned in some capacity for the 50th. Full stop. By not doing so it just makes him look like the guy at the party no one wants to hang around because he's so negative.Frankly, the way the way people act about his involvement I'm not surprised he doesn't want to be more involved. If he'd been more involved he'd have set the clock back to the day he left and had all the same questions and expectations from the self-entitled fans who think he personally owes them something for being involved in a show they loved.

Well, all but one. Something must have really really pissed off CE. He's talked about bits before, but I've never read him outright saying what it was. After all these specials, I've found myself loving the show more as well as those involved with the exception of him. I actually despise him more now. You think his agent would have told him to suck it up and do SOMETHING to be a part of it for the sake of his image. It's not another Brady Bunch reunion movie, it's a worldwide cult classic he's a part of.
Wow, just checked IMDB to see what episodes Joe Ahearne directed and noticed his Birthday is November 23rd 1963!
First, no one "despises" CE. I certainly don't. I just think he's being stupid for not returning. Second, Tom Baker showed up for not only the actual episode but also his "Doctor's Revisited" special, and he's doing the audio adventures now. And he did the original, horrible Children in Need skit thing in 1993, didn't he? He took a break but he's showing that he understands that he's part of something bigger. At his age, I would've understood if he did nothing at all. That he's making an effort is a credit to him. Also, it's worth noting Baker didn't come for the reboot special; Davison asked him three times and Baker never responded to him. You going to start despising him now? AFAIK, we don't know either way if Davison asked CE to be a part of it.
Yeah, he'll come around like Baker did, and if he doesn't, well, it's just a show.Chris Eccleston did do something to be involved in the 50 year celebrations. He sent a message along to the Doctor Who at 50 event where they showed his episodes.

This. Some fans behave like he kicked their dog. They want HIM to suck it up, but what about them? Yes, the show is important to them (and to me), but it's a show.
