The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot

Of course Moffat had stepped out the room for a moment, and the editor, negleated to inform him who the sheets were handed to.

It really was wonderful and you could see the enthusiasm the actors have for the show and the appreciation they have for the fans. They also clearly like each other a lot which is nice, too.

I think my favorite moment is when Colin and his wife are in the garden. While she works, he stands on the lawnmower in the background, hoping to get a better cell phone signal.

I'm guessing that's his real home, by the way. I know he lives on a farmish home because on Twitter he's talked about it. Once his greyhound went after a deer that came onto his property and the deer headbutted the greyhound, leading it to come home crying.

I loved Colin expecting his family to watch Vengeance on Varos and locking all the doors to make sure they couldn't escape!

Well, all but one. Something must have really really pissed off CE. He's talked about bits before, but I've never read him outright saying what it was. After all these specials, I've found myself loving the show more as well as those involved with the exception of him. I actually despise him more now. You think his agent would have told him to suck it up and do SOMETHING to be a part of it for the sake of his image. It's not another Brady Bunch reunion movie, it's a worldwide cult classic he's a part of.

Well, Tom Baker stayed out of the 20th anniversary celebrations, feeling Doctor Who was a part of his life he wanted to leave behind, but now he embraces it as the best thing he ever did. I bet Eccleston will come around in a couple of decades, if not sooner. Sometimes people just need to get a sense of perspective about these things.

Chris Eccleston did do something to be involved in the 50 year celebrations. He sent a message along to the Doctor Who at 50 event where they showed his episodes.

From Digital Spy

Eccleston - who did not attend the event - praised director Joe Ahearne and joked about potential future 100th anniversary celebrations.

He said: "I love the BFI. I love the Doctor and hope you enjoy this presentation.

"Joe Ahearne directed five of the 13 episodes of the first series. He understood the tone the show needed completely - strong, bold, pacy visuals coupled with wit, warmth and a twinkle in the performances, missus.

"If Joe agrees to direct the 100th anniversary special, I will bring my sonic and a stair-lift and - providing the Daleks don't bring theirs - I, the Ninth Doctor, vow to save the universe and all you apes in it."

Frankly, the way the way people act about his involvement I'm not surprised he doesn't want to be more involved. If he'd been more involved he'd have set the clock back to the day he left and had all the same questions and expectations from the self-entitled fans who think he personally owes them something for being involved in a show they loved.

This. Some fans behave like he kicked their dog. They want HIM to suck it up, but what about them? Yes, the show is important to them (and to me), but it's a show.

When the history of the world is written, Doctor Who won't be found in the index.

Wow, just checked IMDB to see what episodes Joe Ahearne directed and noticed his Birthday is November 23rd 1963!

It's a pity Eccleston wasn't in the 50th but he has his reasons and I respect that he made the right choice for himself.

As for the Five(ish) Doctors. That was EPIC. So funny.

I wasn't that impressed by The Science of Doctor Who. I'm not sure how this Brian Cox fellow ended up being a celebrity, since he's rather dull.

You haven't heard him on The Infinite Monkey Cage, I guess. He was having fun bouncing off Alan Moore in last night's edition, and the last Christmas special, with Mark Gatiss, Jon Culshaw and Richard Dawkins, was a cracker.

Oh for god's sake, it's not about that. He's part of something much bigger than himself. All the living Doctors did something for this, even Tom Baker who hadn't returned to Doctor Who proper since leaving in '81. The ONLY one absent was Mr. I Have A Grudge Against People Who No Longer Work On The Show for Things That Happened in 2005. If he didn't want to do the 50th Anniversary episode because he's one of those John Hughes-type weirdos who go through some psychological process where they distance themselves from their past, fine. But he could've at least done this skit. He didn't even have to leave his living room to do it. And it's a damn shame. If he loves the Doctor like he says, he should've returned in some capacity for the 50th. Full stop. By not doing so it just makes him look like the guy at the party no one wants to hang around because he's so negative.

He would've gotten paid and he would've made people happy. If you say "I love The Doctor" and then not return for the 50th Anniversary celebrations when everyone else who is still living and played the TITLE ROLE is involved, it just seems disingenuous.

Edit to add: And in my theatre last night, at the end of The Day of The Doctor when all the doctors were saving Gallifrey, guess who got a louder cheer for his stock footage saying "And for my next trick!" than Peter Capaldi's eyes? Eccleston.

He dropped the ball by staying home. He should've been part of it.

Absolute nonsense. CE didn't like the way some of the production staff treated the crew and no longer wanted to work in that atmosphere. Just because the production staff has changed doesn't mean he should be expected to come back. If I worked somewhere, hated it, and quit, I wouldn't want to come back just because the boss changed to make a few people happy.

Also, it's worth noting Baker didn't come for the reboot special; Davison asked him three times and Baker never responded to him. You going to start despising him now? AFAIK, we don't know either way if Davison asked CE to be a part of it.

Totally awesome that Peter Jackson and Ian McKellen(who even voiced the great intelligence) made a cameo

Jackson- Ian. There's a problem with Sylvester

McKellen- Sylvester who?

Barrowman's scenes were hilarious. 3 doctors trapped in a car with Barrowman singing stage songs LOL

He's denied that, at the BFI screening I think. It's one of those internet rumours that's got out of hand.

First, no one "despises" CE. I certainly don't. I just think he's being stupid for not returning. Second, Tom Baker showed up for not only the actual episode but also his "Doctor's Revisited" special, and he's doing the audio adventures now. And he did the original, horrible Children in Need skit thing in 1993, didn't he? He took a break but he's showing that he understands that he's part of something bigger. At his age, I would've understood if he did nothing at all. That he's making an effort is a credit to him.

Someone on the last page outright said they despise him. The entitled attitude towards Eccleston's return has cropped up again and again on this board and I find it to be in poor taste and it makes Doctor Who fans look bad.

Yeah, he'll come around like Baker did, and if he doesn't, well, it's just a show.
