Spoilers The fate of the Federation

This mini-episode has nothing to do with Federation or future of Federation. But Trekkies live up to their geeky reputation by over-analyzing it needlessly.
Much like cats, we care more about the box than what's inside the box.

But yeah, it's really odd that so many focus on the minor details about setting instead of the story itself. Especially to the point where it ruins their enjoyment of the story because the setting is slightly different than the setting for another story.

The story was pretty good. We got a pretty good overview over the characters as much as the short time allowed - and then it ended in a logical, character-consistent way. There are simply not that many questions open.

The questions that ARE open are the "setting" ones: Like, who fought this war at all, and for what? Which coincides with key character questions: Why did Craft fight? And what was Zora actually doing? And yeah, what is the fate of the Federation? Because the short asks these questions as well, but doesn't answer them. So it's IMO pretty obvious why fan-discussion is mostly focused about these parts.

That’s what fanfics are for. Have fun, be creative.

Naw, I'm more a fact-based encyclopedia à la memory-alpha - guy.

I like to overanalyze stuff. And yeah, if I like stuff enough, I do create some headcanon ("The Romulans in the Earth-Romulus-war fought only with Drones! That's why nobody ever saw a Romulan! And why Drone-starships never appeared later in the Trek continuity - were outlawed because of that war!"). But overall - this minisode did it's job. I like the future to be, well, open. So I actually really like the ambiguity.
