The Experience is back!!

So far as the movie theater(?) is concerned, I'll throw out an idea I had back when there was talk of a 3-D IMAX Trek movie: Tying into the museum's "History of the Future," what about a history of flight and space exploration, etc.? Essentially, the opening titles to Enterprise, but without the song and with more detail/narration/etc., starting out with the factual and then moving into the fictional realm in the mid-late 21st century and on. Sort of like In the Shadow of the Moon for the Trek sect (and an obvious excuse to show those ships on the big, big screen. :))

Not that this should be the anchor feature in such a facility, but it'd be neat if they could offer more than one film in such a space, like they do at "regular" IMAX theaters around the country.

I'm sure they could get tom hanks to whip something up. ;)

As long as they keep Deanna away from the flight controls of Apollo 13, we'll be all set...

If JEEF ain't there, I'm boycotting!

Seriously, the dude does deserve to be at the libation station in Quarks if he chooses. This is the man that brought the those delicious and potent secret formulae into Federation hands, after all!

Cheers!

For me, it's Darren and Dave... but your point is well-taken. As many former employees as wish to return should be allowed to do so.

Actually, there is one former employee (not an actor but a member of staff) I'd be perfectly happy never to see again, but I won't talk about that.

So, will this attraction be more in the theme of:

- The 1960's TV show
- The 1980's feature film era
- The 1990's Berman Trek era
- The 2000's J.J. Abrams era

I'm guessing a little bit of everything... even more broadly-based than before. One of the most common criticisms of STTOE was the lack of TOS/Feature Films theming or a TOS/Feature Films ride or environment... and they're certainly not going to ignore the newest incarnation of Trek ala Abrams. What worries me, in fact, is that they might move too far from TNG-VOY era theming. I'd hate to see Quark's stop being Quark's.
They need to keep Quark's, because for some reason "Ten-Forward lounge" may not work, especially if they decide to keep the Promenade.

>A shop with items that don't all have Star Trek printed all over them, which makes them cheesy and geeky. I want stuff that says Starfleet Academy, Starfleet Command, Temporal Investigations, USS Defiant, USS Enterprise, Vulcan Science Academy, or similar.

They had some of that at the old one. I have a Starfleet Command windbreaker. I decided between it and a Starfleet Academy hooded sweatshirt.

For a long time, you could get all kinds of Star Trek related shirts, mugs and the like that had the Starfleet Academy, Starfleet Command, Klingon Empire, Romulan Empire, etc. logos without also having The Experience logo splashed all over it and even then, that logo was very nicely done. When Cedar Fair took over, it seems like a lot of that went away and they went straight to "I'm with logical" t-shirts and things. Cute but I always wanted stuff that looked like it might actually come from the 23rd or 24th C.

As fan interest in the new movie picks up, I'm hoping we'll see a lot more of that.

I agree with you Biggshow. When I first starting going there, I loved the giftshop, I could have spent hours in them. As it got closer to the end of the Experience, it seemed like it was full of stuff that you could easily find on Ebay and not have it be a unique item. It got to the point where I would hang out at Quarks and that was about it cause the giftshops just didn't have anything worth buying.

My passion was Quark's shirts... they started out very classy and got more garish as time went on. My favorite Quark's shirt is still the one with just a small Quark's logo on the breast I got on my first visit back before the turn of the century.

And I agree with you guys on merchandise that seems to be from the reality as opposed to Experience logo and "Klingons do it with Honor"-type stuff.

^ I have three different Quark's shirts, as well as a ball cap and just about anything that carried the Quark's logo. I've even got the keychain, which I'm using :)

I also love the "inside the box" items, as opposed to just something with a Trek/Trek Experience logo on it. That said, I did get a kick out of stuff like the Quark's/"Orion's Belt" and "Legalize Romulan Ale" shirts.

This is excellent news. I'm from England and hve spent a great deal on three seperate occasions to go this place. The first time i went was in June 2005, i wasnt really a trek fan, the friend i was going with was a huge trek fan (and something of a legend on these boards from what i hear). He was paying for the whole thing just because he wanted to see the place around his 21st b'day. The reason i've been back two more time is because this place has such character and warmth that i immediately felt welcome. Everyone there had a common interest and i never met anyone there i didnt like. all the hard core trekkies i met were really friendly and even made jokes about me having to suffer through it lol. It got me into trek. i felt the need to learn more for next time i went so i could get more involved and understand more about the whole trek world (or should that be universe).

If this place comes back it will be excellent news for trek. with this and a new movie, the powers that be must realise that trek is making a comeback. who knows, it might even become cool and retro to outsiders. i hope the place gets a few upgrades, but the bar and restaurant must be exactly as it was (but bigger - and a smoking area would be nice, even though thats just me being selfish).

I've actually just booked my fourth trip to vegas in june next year, and if any of it is open by then, my long suffering fiance is going to be in for a shock lol.

Oh man, I'm stoked! My roommate and I were so sad when it closed and we'd never been able to go. We'll have to definitely make it there when it opens. We'd been so looking forward to drinking with a bunch of fellow Star Trek geeks...

Hey, kids,

A minor update from an old cast member of STTE. While contracts have been signed, it is looking doubtful that it will make a May or June opening. Not to panic. Remember there was a six month delay for the Original opening. It's a lot easier to tear something down and move it than it is to reinstall. I know this from my old Hallmark store installation days. It would usually only take us a day to remove all the fixturing and about 4 or 5 days to set it back up. If they've taken the last 3 months removing fixturing, etc. from the Original, then it makes sense that it would take anywhere from 6 months to a year to reinstall everything at a new location.

On another note, my "inside" source says that the old alien crew will be given first dibs on their old jobs for the new location. Keep in mind, though, that after ten years, some of them were ready to move on. I know one of the Operations Leads has already moved to Florida. However, there is this troubled economy...

I picked up this great 'Orion's Belt' Quarks shirt my last trip there. All my favourite Trek t shirts came from The Experience.

Hoping to go back to Vegas next year, so fingers crossed it's reopened by then. :)

I was so regretful that I'd never get a chance to see it - now I'm there!

There's currently a push to make Hollywood movies more accurate scientifically. This is a perfect climate, in light of the economy, to inspire people into education, sciences and technology by blending it with Star Trek: The Experience!

We need this as a nation, to use what we do best, entertainment, with new value for education!
