[Bridge]

COMMANDER: You see, Captain? Your effort is being wasted.

 

KIRK: Mister Spock, distance from the Romulan vessel?

 

SPOCK: One hundred and fifty thousand kilometers, Captain, and closing very rapidly.

 

Kirk: Stand by, phasers. Commander, you'll forgive me if I put up a fight.

 

COMMANDER: Of course. It's expected.

 

SPOCK: One hundred thousand kilometers. They should commence firing at us within the next twelve point seven seconds.

 

KIRK: Scotty.....

[Engineering]

SCOTT: It's ready now, Captain, but I don't know whether our circuits can handle this alien contraption.

 

[Bridge]

KIRK: Throw the switch.

 

SCOTT: It'll likely overload.

 

Kirk: Throw the switch.

 

(Scotty does and the Enterprise fades from view)

[Romulan Bridge]

TAL: Weapons officer, commence fire! ... Gone? They have the cloaking device! Quickly, compute enemy course from last position and open fire!

 

OFFICER: Yes, sir.

 

[Bridge]

KIRK: Mister Sulu, come about. Three one eight mark seven.

 

SULU: Three one eight mark seven, sir. Executing.
(They cut underneath the Romulan ship.)

 

KIRK: Thank you, Mister Spock. Cancel Red Alert. We'll let you off at the nearest Federation outpost.

 

COMMANDER: You are very generous, Captain. If I may be taken to your brig, I will take my place as your prisoner.

 

KIRK: Mr. Spock will have the honor of escorting you to your quarters.

 

COMMANDER: Captain.
