The Empath

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
You know the aliens in this one do they resemble the ones in the "Cage?" Also the music/sound effects that is playing while they are underground sounds very familiar with that of a certain Twilight Zone episode or of the feature films "The Three Stooges Have Rocket Will Travel" or "The Three Stooges in Orbit" but I can't paint out the source. Does anyone know? This episode is a hard one to fully understand and I just starting watching it for the second time. The last time was some months ago so I can't remember all the details.

The Empath's Vians bear only a slight resemblance to the Talosians. Sure, they have sparkling robes, and the obvious "head thing" going on, but it would be hard to confuse the two species.

The music is original, composed especially for this episode by George Duning. It's available as a very fine re-recording on Varese Sarabande from 1985, and now the original tracks are in La La Land's 15-disk box set.

This is my personal stash of TOS music:

Sorry to go off topic, but speaking about music: I would love to get the fighting music piece that was used in Bread and Circuses at the end when Kirk and Spock sword-fight against the Roman soldiers (it was also used in Day of the Dove in another sword-fighting sequence)... Can anybody guide me to get this great piece of music?

For clarification, I don't think the OP was referring to George Dunning's musical score. I think he meant the weird whistling-humming-vibrating noise that is constantly being heard in the background of the Vians' underground complex.

Well, that would be "Arrows" from Friday's Child, if I recall correctly. I don't recall second season music used in the sword fights in Day of the Dove. There was some library cues rerecorded from that episode used in the bridge sequence when Scotty is freaking out. This is from memory though, I could be wrong.

True Story: when I was a mere tadling of a lad being blown away by Kathryn Hays as "The Empath", my parents were invited to a party at the house next door in my home town of Joliet, Il (apologies to the Mods if that is too much personal info, but read on and know it is ok with me)...any hoo, I was all of 11 years old and about as excited as a Romulan Turd to go to this thing...my parents knew how important Star Trek was to me, and to get to the point, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but Kathryn Hays...her parents lived next door, and that was the party...I remember her as nice and kind and funny, and very much the empath...

Under our Intellectual Property rule: We cannot legally or morally condone tape-trading in episodes or downloading episodes online, and do not allow discussions on this matter. Any other copyright violations will also not be allowed.

I understand we cannot police the internet and what people do off the site, but we don't allow discussions of how to find stolen episodes, music, etc. If you like it, buy it!

Thanks.

Great story! I've always thought she was a lovely lady and did a great job.

The Vians do have some facial appliances similar to the ones used on David McCallum in the Outer Limits episode "The Sixth Finger." Fred B. Phillips did the makeup on both shows.

John Chambers (later famous for his makeups in Planet of the Apes) worked on to the development of McCallum's "Dr. Silvana" mask. I believe his contribution was primarily developing a foam latex process thin and mobile enough to be used in closeups.

I thank you, Admiral, and I agree! :)

"Arrows" was re-recorded for season 3 for inclusion in that season and my recollection is that the cue is used when Chekov leaves the bridge after talking about his fictitious brother in "Day of the Dove".
