The Down Under Lounge

Logies sounds like slang for logs which reminds me of turds, a word association I've had forever with the Logies.

Of course a lot of people out of work because of this, including one of my family who has worked on the Logies in the past.

Also don't people vote for the Logies? Can't people still vote? Do we need the gala event?

I think Rove McManus did some sketch when he moved to LA to make it big where he is running around Hollywood telling people he had won a Logie to zero recognition

Logies always made me think of the word lugies which is a gross thing people do

I downloaded it.

I forgot to turn on the bluetooth when I left the house. Since I won't be leaving the house again for quite a while that was a nice fail on my part.

They need to change the name, "Logies" sounds so dorky.

Logie sounds dorky yes, very much.
You do know that they are named after the Scottish inventor largely responsible for television, John Logie Baird, don't you?

People can still vote for the Logies, but the people's votes are reliant on the form in the TV Week, a magazine with falling ratings, hence why dorkface above won the gold last year. As a recognition by peers of technical and artistic merit, I'm fine with that, but the gold logie stuff can be cringeworthy. It is worth remembering that the same campaign done by dorkface was done by Norman Gunston 30 years ago. As part of his pursuit, he even did an an ad for a cigarette brand, Dukes, as all big stars did, though I couldn't find it online. You can find plenty of his stuff in YT. Some makes me cringe, but at least he was aiming for satire mixed with comedy.

Anyway, I digress. No CV app doenload.

I remember learning about John Logie Baird when I was at school. The image I remember of him was a skinny, bespectacled nerdy looking guy. I am going to click on the link above to see If he actually looked like that.

Isn't sad over no logies. It's just another popularity contest - well many of the awards that are presented.

I might download it, but as I won't contact with anyone besides some family. Probably won't. I'll decide in a few weeks.

I've downloaded it but all that happened was my phone was on and the battery went down fast becuse Bluetooth has to be turned on as well as location.

A bit of a rant.

I had an argument with a friend over the phone yesterday. She said she would probably join a protest against the lockdown if one is held in Hobart. Her reason - she is bored.

She moaned a couple of weeks ago that she could not go for a walk along the beach, I had to inform her the majority of beaches are opened in Hobart. yesterday she moaned about not being able to buy anything from JB Hifi because she does not have a debit card and JB Hifi won’t take cash. So the only place she can buy DVDs from is Big W and they don’t have much of a range. She won’t get a debit card because she said if she does the bank will no longer let her have a bank book. I offered to buy some DVDs for her online and send them to her home. She could either pay by sending me a postal order, by putting cash in my letterbox, by putting money into my account (which she could do when she takes her bank book in to withdraw money) or she could pay me back later. She said no to all these.

She complained that she cannot go to the library. I suggested that she buy some books to read out of her stimulus money as the bookshop in the shopping centre nearest to her is still open.. She said no, she only likes audiobooks nowadays. Just before the lockdown started I said she could come to my place to download some extra audiobooks onto the tablet I have lent her but she said she could not be bothered.

She complained about all the op shops being closed. I said of course they are because most were run by elderly women who are at risk from the virus.

My friend does not have the internet on though she does have a computer which I downloaded quite a few games onto but my friend is now telling me she can no longer be bothered with those games. I have repeatedly tried to talk her into getting the internet on. Now she is telling me how lucky I am to have so much to keep my occupied.

I ended up telling her that she seems to be enjoy being miserable and if she is going to be a Moaning Myrtle she could find someone else to complain to.

Good for you telling her that @Miss Chicken . Honestly life's too short and also full of interesting things to invest an hour of time listening to someone complaining. A little listening for the sake of being supportive and then that's enough.

The scary thing is some people end up like this 24/7 especially as they age. It's like their identity becomes how inconvenienced and put out they are by life. You can't fix the actual problems because they cling to that identity.

Honestly I have known people like that in the past, and been in that spot myself but I made myself pick myself up and found things to do to keep me occupied at that point in my life. I can't speak for you @Miss Chicken but I've had to struggle maintaining relationships with people like that. There is only so much you can do for them if they don't want to take your help or do something for themselves.

What teacake said makes perfect sense too.

The friend concerned is great to be with if she is in a good mood but she does not cope with adversity at all. She got really mopey when the LNP won the last election whereas I just said ‘we have to cope with them the best we can’. Maybe I am naturally an optimist, whereas she is a born pessimist.

Some people are rigid in their expectations of life and don't adjust well to change or set backs. They can't just go "oh well that sucks" and move on. Or sometimes it's not rigidity but lack of resilience, where everything just throws them off the deep end and they take as long to recover as if something really personally terrible happened.

It's exhausting hand holding someone through this though.

Agree with what teacake and Trinity Gingerbread said. Some people just want to get out. But I'd go crazy without the internet. Been there before (over a decade ago now). I'm not sure what some of the people I use to live with are doing now (as I've moved on with that). I have a feeling some of them would been struggling now.

Anyways I wish it was warmer. Rather cold in Melbourne today. I'm probably gonna lay in bed soon, as just relax the rest of the night.
