The Down Under Lounge

I am in lockdown because of my asthma. My son is going to work but as he works at an Australian Disability Enterprise his employers have monitor the situation very carefully. My other son was given the choice of staying with his girlfriend or with us as he normally alternates between the two homes. I told him if he choose to stay with us he would have to stick by the rules I impose ie only going out if it is absolutely necessary. He has decided to stay with his girlfriend.

I have plenty to do. I don’t go out very often as it is.

I am hoping that Coles Online opens up again soon and they accept me as a vulnerable person. I have applied to Woolworths as a vulnerable person but have not heard back. I think I have more chance with Coles as I have bought online groceries from them for several years. I have polyosteoarthritis, sciatica, and asthma so I hope I qualify.

Having to physically shop for the last week has been very tiring for me. One of my knees is very sore and both of my shoulders are bad. When I shop I cannot reach the top or bottom shelf and carrying three bags of groceries home is difficult. My son, who has cerebral palsy, is having problems with his legs so I don’t like asking him to do to much of the shopping.

Download the uber app Miss Chicken, you will probably get a big discount for first trip. It is quite cheap if it's a short distance. Then next time if you do shop you can just wait with a full trolly and have the uber guy load it up, it's well worth the money. Speaking as someone who has never owned a car I think judicious use especially at this time is well worth it, cuts down on your trips.

That's a great suggestion. Uber is good.

I don't know if anyone has a code to pass on to Miss Chicken or if the app just gives you discounts for your first one or two rides automatically. But if there's no discount a couple kilometers is usually under 12 dollars.

Miss Chicken you can use this ride estimator:

https://www.uber.com/au/en/price-estimate/

During massive thunderstorms the prices sometimes surge and go higher but that's more relevant with longer distances I think.

Line up. I think many people will want to kick. On facebook - I had a filter, that call him "Dickhead PM" during the bushfires.

I have been accepted as a vulnerable person at Woolworths Online. I am so pleased, I have put my first order in mainly for the perishables I am either out of or low on. There were many restricted items ie I could only order 2 cartons of long life milk.

Can you also order the shotgun to scare of the porch pirates?

Super happy for you Miss Chicken. My friend is still waiting to hear back and Coles has yet to return her money from the order they cancelled.

There's quite a few veg delivery places available to me, probably more money than supermarkets but I will use one of them when the veg runs out (nice to support them too). Other than toilet paper I have everything else I need.

Coles cancelled my last order before taking my money out. I have shop at Coles Online for several years but they have been far slower to deal with this than Woolworths when it comes to the disabled, elderly and sick. Coles has still not got online orders back in place and even when they do they will have to sort out who is allowed to use it.

I walked down to my local shopping centre twice for the oldies hours but that exhausted me for hours afterwards.

My son just phoned me to tell me is being given 2 months holiday from work because he told them he didn’t want to risk his Mum getting sick. It does not matter if they pay him or not as he works at an Australian Disability Enterprise and is on a disability wage (he only gets $7 an hour and works 21 hours a week). Hopefully, if he isn’t paid Centrelink will put his pension back to the full amount.

About a week before this all started he had paid the cost of going on a cruise to New Caledonia/Vanuatu with three of his workmates in November. Now he does want to go all that much and would be happiest with a refund. They might give him a credit or maybe there is a chance it will be OK by November.

He is hoping to go to the US in 2023 for the San Diego ComicCon. He said if he gets a refund he just put the money towards that.

Now I have to try to get my other son (who is intellectually disabled) to understand what self isolation is. He seem to think he can still spend some of the week at home and the rest of the week at his girlfriend’s place. I have told him that if he wants to stay at home it has to be all the time. Maybe for two months or more. He is very annoyed at me.
